I'm just butting in to say that string theory is not an alternate theory to the big bang. String theory is trying to combine the theory of relativity, which applies to big objects and quantum theory, which applies to subatomic objects. It has nothing to do with the origins of the universe. Same with M-Theory.

You've never seen Hawking speak about this, have you? I don't claim to know the entirety of any theory, but I know for a fact that he--and others--have said that if proven, string theory would dismiss big bang.

You put gravity in the same boat as evolution. Gravity is a fact, not a theory. We know gravity exists. So either you're saying that we haven't 100% proven gravity, or we have 100% proven evolution. The latter being false.

Yes I have watched Stephen Hawking speak on it, and I haven't seen him say anything about that other than that it deems a creator unnecessary. If you'd like the video that would be great.

Actually the first video I watched, in Stephen Hawking's first sentence he said, "M-Theory is the theory of everything, it explains how the universe was created out of nothing in the big bang and how it behaves now."

I guess it does explain the origins of the universe but it still works together with the big bang so it's not a competing theory.
