Eminem a Concept album?

Postby Hopsinshadie » Sep 25th, '12, 14:27

I keep reading that Eminem should do a concept album. What exactly and precisely do people mean when they say that? Relapse was a concept, recovery was a concept, right? What do people mean when they say ''concept'' album?

A concept... almost like a storyline or noticeable overbearing theme that defines the album, kind of like a plot to a movie; but obviously with music - it's often a lot looser and less committed.

The basic concept of Relapse is that Em is initially in a recovery period and then he relapses in to a wild drug binge that leads to murder and... that idea just sets the scene to allow for all of the abstract ramblings of the album / character basically.

And then, Encore is a concept album too - the concept is that it's his 'final show' / the 'encore' (to The Eminem Show) and that he kills the audience and then himself at the end, which the book graphics obviously illustrate, and he has a pistol behind his back when taking a bow.

Encore was actually a brilliant concept and I just... it's so frustrating. Obviously the album is pretty poop, it's just a mixed bag with some hits and lots of misses, but lots of random shit too; but if he had truly committed to that concept and structured the album like a story, and had the songs coincide and get more dramatic and graphic, with the concept... it could have been a masterpiece.

Agree with all of that. Encore was a wasted opportunity.

Like a storyline or an overall theme. Recovery did have a theme but no story. Even Hell: The Sequel was kinda conceptual with tracks like The Reunion and A Kiss that emphasize great detail. Hope his next album is like Relapse without an accent tbh...everyone says this but that's what I want. I want him killing tracks.

so all of Eminem's albums have been concept albums. But he doesn't have much left to rap about. He doesn't have any concepts that would shock us.

I will not say "concept" when I mean "idea." I will not say "impacted" when I mean "affected."

He doesn't have to rap about his life.

There's a million things I could think up immediately that would be entirely new and which he could use his talents to create genius with; so I'm sure his brain can think of plenty more.

To say he has nothing to rap about is absurd.

Hmm...what about hos? Or junk food? He could condense it into a double entendre and rap about ho-hos! He could do a triple entendre!!! Pretend to be Hip-Hop's Santa Claus and his music is like a present to us!! Ho ho ho!! HOLY SHIT!!!

brilliant

no but srsly there's a lot of things he could rap about. Is he not capable of rapping about things that have nothing to do with him or something?

You keep saying 'about' like he has to pick a topic and talk about it.

There are no rules, why are you applying rules?

He could come up with a concept to encapsulate any kind of mood; he could come up with original storylines - for the purpose of humour, or to make points, it's like... it's so endless... he doesn't just have to 'talk' about things. You're making it so limited.

About? just... I give up, lmao.
