Cole World: The Sideline Story Anniversary

Postby Mr.DGAF » Sep 28th, '12, 21:08

Well, a year ago Cole debuted his first album. After the first listen I was hooked, but I told myself I'd give it a year to sit before I decided how good it really was. Well, after re-listnening only a few days ago, I've come to the conclusion that I love this album. It lacks some of the fire in his delivery present from mixtapes like The Warm Up (his best body of work, imo), but his skills have been sharpened and the beats sound far more refined. I can listen to every single track without skipping, though there are a few I debate over (like In The Morning, that song was overplayed years ago). Plus it's cool hearing somebody that grew up only an hour from me making it big. I can't wait to hear his sophomore album.

But yeah, this is just a thread to show appreciation or your thoughts on how the album has aged in it's first year.

I love the album, I even bought it. It's not a lyrical masterpiece but it's still a great album for what it was meant to be. I love God's Gift.

To be honest, even though J. Cole is slowly becoming my favourite rapper right now, I only ever listen to Lost Ones and Lights Please from Sideline Story. I agree that the Warm Up is his magnum opus as far as projects go.

Edit: Another reason to love J. Cole http://soundcloud.com/majorlazer/j-cole ... r-get-free
PS: It's advised to listen to the above track with a pair of Beats headphones or similar. Good day. :worship:

Lost Ones used to be my favorite track from the album but now I lean towards Dolla and a Dream III.

I really like this album. Can't Get Enough it's one of the catchiest songs I've heard.

As far as my top 5 songs, in no specific order:

- Rise and Shine
- God's Gift
- Can't Get Enough
- Dollar and a Dream III
- Nobody's Perfect

Amazing album :y:, that's how you make a mainstream album without selling out and making shit. Take notes Shady, take notes.

Favorite song off the album would have to be "Dollar and a Dream III" but he NEARLY fucked the song up by saying, "I let you feel like you the shit, but boy you can't out-fart me."

Like, wtf Cole???

Good album, I remember listening to it quite a bit last year. Interested how his next album stacks up to this one.
