Not to mention, Jay-Z turned "ball so hard" into a pop culture quotable that everyone, even if they don't listen to hip-hop, knows about. I bet if you walked down the street people wouldn't even know who Slaughterhouse is let alone their track with Eminem. Also, the topic of rap isn't that clever, maybe even less so because at least the topic of a whole song about dicks is less common than even rap in rap (there's a reason for that too).

I love how you couldn't defend Jay-Z's lyrics in the OP so you brought up something Eminem did that you don't like lmao.

That was my defense, you complain about how he always references money and never changes his concept, so I pointed out how you turn the other cheek when Eminem gets on his dick subject matter. Which, is worse subject matter than materialism. If you want to talk lyrics then these are definitely better than the cookie cutter, Young Money styled punchlines from Recovery and the majority of the latest projects released in the rap genre.

Also, Eminem became what he dissed in the past basically. And, in the era of rap which Eminem came up in, rape was one of most popular subjects among MC's trying to stick out using shock value, it's still a subject that gets reflected upon in many rap songs. Eminem is innovating nothing using rape as subject matter, and Jay-Z isn't innovating anything by using money as subject matter. However, Jay-Z is actually making lyrics that are cool and strike a cord with popular culture (he made "ball so hard" famous, he's not following anyone else). Then, he even keeps it relevant to modern news (i.e. the referee line), and finally he isn't fronting on his personality. He's actually talking about shit he has done/is doing. He DOES have gunmen in his pocket, you know that's not a lie. Even if you don't believe he does, he can hire them. Plus, he was actually a gangster before he turned businessman so he isn't putting on an act. Eminem on the other hand hasn't rapped a soul, which we all know. I'm not making the case that you should take lyrics at face value, but if you want to get into it, there you go.
