RZA Discusses the Ol' Dirty Bastard Biopics

Postby flyingmonkey10 » Oct 8th, '12, 09:54

With his directorial debut, The Man With the Iron Fists, right around the corner, the RZA is already making plans for future cinematic project. The Wu-Tang Clan leader has not one but two biopics in the works for his deceased bandmate, Ol’ Dirty Bastard.

One film is entitled Dirt: One Word Could Change the World, and it focuses on ODB’s early life and family. RZA recently opened up about the project, saying,

“That actually starts back when we was young… Me and [ODB] ran through this city man, cutting school, stealin’ pretzels from the hot dog stand, being vagabonds, sleeping on the trains, drinking ‘40s on the back of the A train, rapping, getting chased by the police…. It’s a coming-of-age story that me and him and a few of our cousins went through. Then it goes on into becoming Wu-Tang, going through that hell. And then it takes on his side of it, not my side.”
The second film, Dirty White Boy looks at the final two years of ODB’s life and at his manager. Rolling Stone speculates that RZA might be scoring that film and that he might be included a couple of times in the script. As far as directing, though, he said, “I dunno, it depends. Right now I’m not, though.” There’s no word yet on a release date for either film.

How can hip-hop be dead if Wu-Tang is forever?
