Eleven years ago a Federal Liberal MP named Peter Slipper said US rapper Eminem was too vile for Australian audiences.
In this archived transcript of The World Today, from 2001, Mr Slipper denounced Eminem's "disgusting and appalling" lyrics.
Mr Slipper went on to say he was very concerned about the rapper's, aka Marshall Mathers, lyrics, which were "undesirable".
"Quite frankly, a lot of what he says is disgusting. It's despicable. It's appalling," he said.
This week Mr Slipper resigned his position as Speaker of the House of Representatives over a string of sexist text messages.
The man who was so offended by Eminem's lyrics wrote to adviser James Ashby about "vile anatomical references", according to the Opposition, which offended the Prime Minister and several female MPs.
Mr Slipper also frequently used the C word.
Referring to women's private parts, he said: "They look like mussell (sic) removed from its shell. Look at a bottle of mussel meat. Salty C..ts in brine."
This week the real Peter Slipper stood up, and walked away from the Speaker's chair.
