I've often wondered this question. A prime year for hip-hop. I might have to say 2000 or 2002 for the fact that hip-hop felt like it was in it's prime in the mainstream during those years and the years around them also had big releases so people were still listening to albums from 99 or 01. But i'm a big old school fan so a year in the early 90's could be it.
