^ I agree with you totally. Towards the end of that era he was becoming damn near perfect. He was on the right track to being the best in the world again, but then changed his whole style, e.g. voice, metaphors, subject matter, etc.

Maybe he felt like he mastered it so he wanted to move on to something different/more challenging?
