Consistency: Jay came out in 1996 with his debut Reasonable Doubt, and ever since then he has dropped one bad album. That's right, Kingdom Come was certainly not up to par with his other albums. People might call The Blueprint 3 a "poppy" album, but it's not really a bad album. It has a few gems on there. Anyways, the point I'm getting at is that Jay might release one sub-par album, but then strikes back with GREAT albums.

Popularity: Jay's tied with Eminem on this one...there's no doubt that these figures are the most popular people in all of the world. There isn't a single person that DOESN'T know who Jay-Z is. Not to mention the various business ventures he's a part of. He's not a businessman, he's a business...man!

Lyricism: I'll admit, there are a ton of rappers out there that know how to "rhyme great," but what does that even mean anymore? If anyone picked up a pencil and pad, and decided to become dedicated to writing nonsense bars filled with multis, then they'd definitely accomplish that. But, it's a whole other challenge to actually write something. I'll take some examples from Watch The Throne since that's the most recent album he's been on:
Jay-Z wrote:I tried to teach niggas how to be kings
And all they ever wanted to be was soldiers
So the love is gone 'til blood is drawn
So we no longer wear the same uniform
Fuck you squares, the circle got smaller
The castle got bigger, the walls got taller
And truth be told after all that said
Niggas still got love for you
Jay-Z wrote:Cocaine seats, all white like I got the whole thing bleached
Drug dealer chic, I’m wondering if a thug’s prayers reach
Is Pious pious cause God loves pious?
Socrates asked whose bias do y'all seek?
All for Plato, screech
I’m out here balling, I know y'all hear my sneaks
Jesus was a carpenter, Yeezy he laid beats
Hova flow the Holy Ghost, get the hell up out your seats, preach
When was the last time you heard someone spit bars like that? Lyrics with hidden context and significance. Reading the lyrics on paper won't make it seem like a big deal, not until you learn what the lyrics really mean. Kinda like why a lot of people like Pac, because he spits from the "heart."

So in the end, is it reasonable to call Jay-Z the best MC of all time?
Agree? Disagree? Feel free to comment why!

)... on the real tho, yall seem to forget the fact that he can come up with all that shit in his head without writing a single rhyme down. its incredible
