I thought "Same Love" was a really good song, while we're on the topic.

I thought Same Love was an amazing and beautiful song. I never heard it going into this because I wanted to hear the whole album as a whole so when Rev made that comment I assumed it was some dumb and corny love song. It was probably the opposite, and just deleting the song and writing it off is being willfully ignorant of the situation because Macklemore makes a magnificent case for why they should be treated equal. He even said in an interview that if the whole world could hear one song off the album it would be Same Love because that's an issue that he feels strongly about and has the strongest message on the album.

Yeah, it's the first time homophobia has been brought up in hip-hop that I'm aware of.

Frank Ocean coming out did a wee bit too.

You don't need to spread hate speech to be homophobic.

You've had posts on here talking about wanting to kill gay people so don't give me that bullshit, I would search it if I could.

Anyway, after a couple spins this is my take on the album. I think that I built that album up too much and although it came out as a typical Macklemore record and was exactly what I should have thought, I still expected a little too much so I was disappointed. The high points were great and there were some amazing songs (Starting Over, Wings, Ten Thousand Hours) but there were too many sucky and pointless songs (White walls, gold, cowboy boots) that held back the album from being what it could. The production was fabulous for the most part, although all of the singing choruses started to get really repetitive and bland on some songs. Overall I would probably give it a 7/10 although it could have been higher if it had be only 12-13 songs and they had cut out the filler.

These guys honestly seem to be getting more support from the alternative community than from the hip hop community for some reason, which is a shame.
