Comparing sales between Jay and Em isn't really the fair thing to do. By the time Em released his debut, Jay was already on his fourth album. So while Jay's sales gradually fall, Em's sales gradually rise.

Jay is or at least was "proposed as a total genius" back in his prime, just like Eminem was.

That means Jay has had MORE time, MORE albums, and sold LESS.

THIS. That comment from Beth Hart destroyed any credibility the article had (if any to begin with). I mean, you know an article comparing two artists is biased when it detracts one for his weakest aspect and compares it with the best aspect of 2nd artist. He had to bring down Em and over-praise Jay to make them look on the same level; that's when you know how badly Em murked Jay on that record. What's funny is, it wasn't just rhyming or flow that Em bettered Jay with, he used far superior metaphors and other literary devices. Just read that Beth Hart comment.
And lol at Jay even being remotely close to Em's popularity, I don't even need to point out why.

Oh, and Jay is top 20 at best imo. Jay has never been consistent, he has always been relevant though. Jay's lyrics on paper are far more impressive than hearing them over a beat; he'd have made a great poet, I guess. He has a lot of panache and things outside of artistry that make his music sound better than it actually is and he deserves some credit for that.

1 classic, 2 VERY good albums and rest good to meh...out of what? 11+ albums. That doesn't show any consistency at all. I never said Em was more consistent, did I? Though, 97-03 Em was pretty consistent, probably the best 5-6 years for any rapper. Also, Relapse and Recovery are far from being "bad albums", you may not like them but they certainly weren't bad.



Why you're mad at Jay not being in my top 15? Lol I just don't consider him that great. His lyrics are incoherent, entendres are forced in for the fuck of it, flow has never been out of this world either. He does have the ability to craft songs and has a bigger legacy than most of the rappers, those are the only reasons he would even make it into my top 25 if I were to make one.

Jay, yes. But em + tech is the holy grail. Regardless of what period in time. And I wouldn't even say it has to be tech. I just often use tech because he has that one-up gene that Em does. They both seem to pull out these clutch aces whenever they're collaborating with someone that may outshine them. Unfortunately we haven't heard what happens when this gene meets itself on a track like two negative sides of a magnet.

My theory is that it'll be much like when black holes meet. It'll create a massive revolutionary tear in the world of hiphop. Both underground and mainstream. You're bringing the hardest MC's from both worlds and putting them on one beat. I don't think it'll be a win/lose situation. It'll just be healthy for hiphop for such an experiment to be conducted y'know?

I've never viewed Tech as an elite lyricist.
He's great, just don't think he's as great as his die hard fans say he is.
