Whether you hate him or not, Drake is one of the best artists of today. His music is almost always fire and truly relatable to the younger audience of today. He might not have the cultural impact you all look for, but he certainly helped define the "baby don't leave me" genre in hip-hop.

Image

Despite Drake coming off as some "queer" or "fuckboi", his music is still really amazing. Room For Improvement may be one of the best mixtapes of the past decade. Not to mention Take Care had to be one of the best albums of last year, which really helped propel the young Canadian rapper/singer to an even higher level than Thank Me Later did (both really EXCELLENT albums).

Image

Why do you hate Drake? Is it the music? The soft singing tone? Is it the smile? The dude's popularity and relevancy in the United States is absolutely crazy, he had nearly every teenager (and some older folks) screaming YOLO from the top of their lungs.

Image

So please...feel free to explain why you dislike Drake or why he doesn't deserve the praise everyone is giving him. I shall be waiting.

So Far Gone is leagues above Room For Improvement. Is that the mixtape you meant?

However, Take Care was a huge step up from Thank Me Later (which was a piece of shit). Take Care is a great album, not a classic or anything but certainly very good.

I heard Room For Improvement and was pretty blown away tbh. Haven't checked out So Far Gone though...

I hate that someone with this popularity is setting the stupidest trends ever.
People screaming YOLO from the top of their lungs only shows how much uninteresting hip hop has become, not how awesome Drake is.

It just means he's doing something right. If Eminem was setting those same trends, would you hate Eminem?

Yeah, I fuck with J. Cole. Friday Night Lights >>>

This is his vision.
"New school" rappers have to do something new.
It's getting harder to impress people with the old pure rap.

Kendrick Lamar agrees too:
"I gotta do something that’s innovative / Creative just to create a legacy"

And they're correct. That's why we're seeing rapper/singer hybrids.
We've been seeing artists like B.o.B, J.Cole, K dot, and of course Drake who could all handle all their hooks.

Maybe it's Kanye's influence on 808s & Heartbreak that caused this.

New ish keeps coming out. That's why sometimes I would hear old hip hop music and not be impressed.
Nas' flow was godly when it came out because his rhyming style was never seen prior to him.
Then artists like Eminem popped up who were influenced by Nas' flow and then added on to it.

Spoiled by Em, I'm not too impressed by Nas' old work because I've heard raps that were influenced by Nas and then improved on it.

Drake's fine is my point.

If someone is gonna try to do something that other rappers don't and do the rapper/singer thing, why can't they be more like Krizz Kaliko? Kali is a better singer, better rapper, and he's much more creative imo. He puts so much more passion into his music, Drake seems like he just does whatever to get a radio hit, but Kali sounds like he really tries to make good music.

And I'm not saying Krizz is the best, I'm just using him as an example because he's the first one who came to my mind.

IDK. That's just not what people like I guess.
Maybe they don't relate to Krizz's music.
We can't do much about it.

I mean you saw the Jokerr diss right?
There's no denying it really. We kinda have to laugh.

He's often corny, dumbed-downed and has shit punchlines.

Every now and then he produces some good stuff.

I honestly believe that Drake is one of those artists people love to hate. If it's not your taste, that's cool, but by no means is he a faggot. Every person that meets him says he's the most humble guy they've ever met, even Kendrick says so. And sure, he says some corny things, but we're all corny in our own ways, so...

You probably won't reply to me again just like in the Jay-Z thread but I'll respond anyway.

I dislike Drake because

1) He is not a good rapper, period. There are so many rappers who are better than Drake I couldn't even name them all. I actually care about the talent of a rapper and their technical skills when listening to them. I know they're not the only thing that matters but to me they matter a lot. And don't tell me to listen to his mix tapes because I have and they are better than he is now but still don't showcase anything out of the ordinary.

2) I don't like when he get's "artistic" at all. When he starts getting all soft and singing it sounds terrible, I don't like that style of rap at all and I don't want to listen to it. It's corny and lame. If I want to listen to soft emotional music I'll go to a genre the specializes in that or listen to a rapper like Sadistik that actually has skills.

3) Rhyming/flows/whatever else you want to include in technicalities aside his lyricism is still terrible. His lyrics are comprised of simple feelings and corny lines. There is no imagery, creativity, metaphors, etc. He simply says what he feels, he doesn't describe how the feeling. There is no picture in my head being painted as he raps. It's all 1st grade stuff. I would rather listen to someone with lines like "Some things that you love aren't meant to be, bleeding hearts run out of blood eventually," than anything Drake has spit because that's actually creative.

Don't get me wrong, I recognize that Drake sounds good in the club and the ladies love him but don't act like when you're just chilling and listening to music that their aren't 100 better artists out there. However, I will give you that he killed the choruses from No Lie and The Motto and they're both some of the catchiest songs I've heard in a long time.

Take Care was good but other than that fuck Drake lol. I just don't like his persona that he has going for himself. He's one of the softest rappers in the game.
