First week sales figures for Kendrick Lamar‘s Aftermath debut–Good Kid, M.a.a.d City are in. Kendrick‘s debut managed to sell an impressive 242,122 copies in it’s first week out, coming in at #2 behind Taylor Swift’s RED which was expected. Top Dawg Ent ring leader, Kendrick‘s sales figures are still very impressive, making him have the #1 Rap album in the country.

Dunno about that. Recovery was 250k off, and consider the amount of new young fans he got with that album; I see people on Em vids and all over the Internet all the time who never even knew who he was until Recovery, yet seem obsessed with him already...

I definitely think he could do a milli next album.

Hopefully this and other releases that do not compromise or water-down will prove that 'aiming' at a demographic is senseless and pleases nobody. The people you're trying to 'trick' into liking the music won't really like it anyway as it's half rap / hardcore or, and why would you want people who don't really like what YOU do listening to you anyway - and then the fans who actually do like what YOU do will just be disappointed. It's good for nothing and is a cheap tactic.
