What I said about the military situation isn't really a reflection of my personal views on it, just to be clear. I'm not endorsing our presence all over the world, and I'm definitely not a fan of the ridiculous amount of money we blow on contractors...especially the paramilitary forces we help fund to "fight drugs" in South America. Don't even get me started on that shit, though.

Honestly, far left and far right have way more in common than people realize. True conservatives shouldn't be interested in foreign intervention, and most liberals are anti-war. So why are the left and right divided about Israel at all? Because they can't survive without our help, and they aren't Muslims, so the Right has given them a blank check.

So, to answer your question, I'm not sure I can answer your question. My views on drugs are probably considered to be very liberal, but a true conservative (think libertarians) would be pro personal freedom. They wouldn't want regulation on what people can put into their bodies. Unfortunately, the idea of personal liberty and responsibility has been replaced by Religious fervor on the Right, and Liberals can't seem to agree on anything anyway, so no one gets anything done.

I'm just a conflicted American, trying to think for myself. This isn't a great country for that anymore, at least in the realm of politics.

as far as the far left and far right not being different i agree, but most cant have truly radical ideals as the masses wouldnt vote for them. for instance the American Communist party, they never have anyone nominated because their ideas are to strong(given the communist name doesnt help)
so politicians play to the middle, which is why you hear romney agree with obama on alot even though... he probably doesnt agree.

the US is the most powerful nation in the world, that alone spawns the fact that alot of other countries hate us. also now that we have this big thing with the middle east and each president feeling it is our duty to rescue other nations that are being bullied. its 100 necessity for us to have a military to defend ourselves from probable danger, much less every major country should have military... its common sense really. especially seeing as how obama and romney both said we defend isreal in times of war, and im pretty sure war can happen there any second.
