The truth is limitless in it's range, if you drop a "T" and look at it in reverse, it could hurt.

Firstly, it's classic MMLP era irony--where he's promising to clean up his image to the fuckin' critics. Geddit?

And then, as you know, he goes on to fulfill the promise--and 'successfully cleans his image up'.

You don't need to explain it because I get the line, I just don't think there is anything special or clever about it. He doesn't "successfully clean up his image" because he doesn't saying fucking. He still says fuck and loads of other things multiple times.

That was the irony I was trying to get through to you...

First of all, he's promising to clean up his image to the critics but calling them fuckin critics in the same line. A clever, simple line right there.

And then, all in a brilliant homage, the way he goes about cleaning up his image is promising not to say a swear word. (like not swearing means anything). But which he fulfills. Obviously he hasn't actually cleaned up his image just by not swearing.

But that's him 'trying' to clean up his image. And 'successfully' doing it.

Besides, I don't think him not saying fucking was even intentional, you guys are just reaching for shit like always.

I think you're clutching at straws to bring down the line.

>Says it three times right before the promise
>literally promises not to say it for six minutes
>doesn't say it for six minutes
>says it several times in the following song once 6 minutes is up

Weeee bit too much of a coincidence I'd say.

You're saying that I'm clutching at straws when you're analyzing his lines like a fucking Franz Kafka novel? looool okay

I understand the line, I understand irony. I do what Eminem's doing all the time for jokes, it's not clever.

I think we are confusing between "Clever" and "Creative". It's hard to differentiate between the two though.

Straw man.

You clutched at straws big time to bring down the line in some way. It's obviously intentional that he didn't say the word fuckin'.

I understand the line, I understand irony. I do what Eminem's doing all the time for jokes, it's not clever.

You didn't. I had to explain how it was ironic and how it was clever.

I can even imagine someone like Charles Bukowski saying "Okay..okay..I'll try and clean up my fucking image for you". The fucking critics want me to stop saying fucking so much.

I think both of you have very reductionistic definitions on the word 'clever' and think 'complex wordplayz and punz' are what constitutes clever lines.

Eminem's line on Remember Me is clever. It's simple, witty and originally constructed.

CrashBand, you need to understand one thing-if Class says that the line is not clever, it`s not. He knows it all. How can it be smart when Eydea or some other underground rapper didn`t say it. If you say something good about Eminem-you are riding a dick. Just look at the topic title. You need to ride some undergroun rapper`s dick, that`s how we do stuff here. No matter if that rapper hasn`t got 1/10 of Eminem`s potential, talent or charisma (not just talking about lyrical skills here).

Straw man.

You clutched at straws big time to bring down the line somehow. It's obviously intentional that he didn't say the word fuckin'.

That is not a straw man lmao And I'm not clutching at straws. I don't think the line is clever, nothing about it is clever. I don't believe that he intentionally did that, and even if he did it adds nothing to the cleverness of the line.

No, you chose to explain how it was ironic and how it was clever. I understand the irony, I'm not an idiot. I'm not even sure you know what the word clever means at this point.

To "attack a straw man" is to create the illusion of having refuted a proposition by replacing it with a superficially similar yet unequivalent proposition

You were clutching at straws by saying it wasn't intentional. Fact.

You then pulled a straw man. You didn't adress how you were clutching at straws to try and bring the line down a peg.

You still are clutching at those same straws and think it wasn't intended. Fact.

It's obvious he intentionally didn't say the word.

No, you chose to explain how it was ironic and how it was clever. I understand the irony, I'm not an idiot. I'm not even sure you know what the word clever means at this point.

No. I explained it because you said He doesn't "successfully clean up his image"...He still says fuck and loads of other things multiple times.

Yes. Obviously he didn't successfully clean up his image. I somehow doubt that he was genuinely giving his best efforts to try and clean it up in the first place.

No, not at all. I feel he was being conscious, nothing else. If you can prove me otherwise, I'll accept your argument. :y:

Huh? So it wasn't simple, witty and originally constructed?

The simplicity and wit comes in where he promises the fucking critics that he's cleaning up his fucking image.

I feel this is an obvious showcase of wit.

Maybe try and imagine a dead-pan Ice Cube-played character in a movie. Who seemingly seriously says "I'm promising my fucking grandma that I'll clean up my fucking image."

And then brilliantly, he actually fulfills the promise.

Do I have to explain how it's originally constructed?

Class, you're a fucking faggot. If you think Em just HAPPENED to not say "fucking" for six minutes after that line, you're just a fucking retard. Especially on an album where he probably says fucking more than any of his other albums.

Just because you say fact doesn't mean it's a fact

You then pulled a straw man. You didn't adress how you were clutching at straws to try and bring the line down a peg.

No lol. A straw man is when you attack an opponent for a position the opponent doesn't hold. Please tell me when I did that.

You still are clutching at those same straws and think it wasn't intended. Fact.

I absolutely think it wasn't intended but also think whether he intended it or not is irrelevant

Yes. Obviously he didn't successfully clean up his image. I somehow doubt that he was genuinely giving his best efforts to try and clean it up in the first place.

Exactly.

All Eminem is doing is saying he's going to do something while doing the opposite. OMG that's so creative and original. What he's doing is no different than the kid that says he's giving up smoking to live a healthy lifestyle and then goes and grabs a beer or the drunk kid that tells someone else how drinking is bad for them. That happens all the time and it's not clever, original or creative.

And I already said the tone line was great and last time I checked that was by Eminem so you can all grow up and drop that argument :coffee:

Please tell me why you think it is likely that he didn't intend to not say it?

You then pulled a straw man. You didn't adress how you were clutching at straws to try and bring the line down a peg.

No lol. A straw man is when you attack an opponent for a position the opponent doesn't hold. Please tell me when I did that.

My position was that he obviously intended to not say the word.

So obvious in fact that you were clutching at straws saying it wasn't.

You didn't adress that at all. Instead, you brought up the case that me over-analyzing his irony and wit somehow negates my point--that it's obvious he intended not to say it.

But again, please, let me know why you think he didn't intend to not say the word.

I absolutely think it wasn't intended
Lol, why?

It's not a reach in any sense.

>He said it multiple times before the promise
>He literally promises not to say it for 6 minutes
>He doesn't say it for six minutes
>He says it frequently after six minutes is up

but also think whether he intended it or not is irrelevant

Well this is just plain stupidity.

If you actually think it's irrelevant--then you might as well agree, for sake of arguent, that he intentionally fulfilled the promise--as it doesn't add anything to it.

Yes. Obviously he didn't successfully clean up his image. I somehow doubt that he was genuinely giving his best efforts to try and clean it up in the first place.

Jesus Christ. More straws.

Firstly ignore the fact that you didn't grasp the irony in the statement. (which you will go on and claim you understood all along).

Just stating it's not clever, original or creative doesn't make it so.

The way he crafted that was original. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I doubt there's another example in any song of what he did there on remember me.

Although some of your argument hinges on the fact he didn't intentionally fulfill the promise. (which laughably you say is irrelevant). But yes, would be less original.

Your example is only similar to the fact he isn't saying 'fuckin' but is still swearing and stuff.

It's not this fact alone why it's a good line. I'm sick of explaining how it's good though.

But if executed well, your example, as a skit, could be as creative and clever as Remember Me.
