I don't really wanna jump into this whole discussion about Em's cleverness but I will give my two cents:

Em not saying "fucking" for 6 minutes after he promised he wouldn't doesn't really make it clever in any way. I mean, if one of your friends told you they were going to stop cursing, and then proceeded to never curse again, would you think that's clever?

I think it would have worked better if he had said "fucking" right after he promised he wouldn't. He nearly fooled the critics into believing him, only to deceive them and continue saying "fucking" for as much as he wanted to. :coffee:

But he did keep swearing as much as he wanted too. He obviously didn't clean up his image. (but he did).

And it's subtle that he fulfills his promise. The fact that class thinks he didn't intend to shows that it's not as obvious as your stupid example. It seems like he's just having a go at the critics.

Class, you are an idiot if you don't think that was a original way to homage Dougie Fresh.

Do you even know what original means? (serious question).

Class "It's not original in the slightest"
Crash "How? Oh, and also, why don't you think he intentionally didn't say it,"
Class - "Me and my friends are ironic! Irony is everywhere"
Blu - Therefore not clever!
Class - "And all he's done is fulfill a promise"
Blu - Therefore not clever!
Crash - "Do you at least concede it's original?"
Blu - "My friends fulfill their promises"
Blu- "Therefore not clever!"
I'm not tryin to be rude, but I sincerely wanna fuck the taste out of your mouth

Amadeo wrote:Being able to find two different meanings of the same word isn't clever. Being able to say something powerful and moving while you create a mood, is. Puns and wordplay are devices in language that are meant to enhance what you're saying...they're not meant to be the main focus of the lyrics.

So basically every line in this thread isn't clever. Gotcha.

I think a well-executed punch can be clever.

But most are pretty generic. And a lot of hip hop fans rave about ones that aren't the slightest bit clever.

Big L is a great example.

"GOAT contender! Dope punchlines!"

Now this is what a strawman is.

Honestly I don't give a fuck anymore, if it means so much to you that every single Eminem line ever is great and amazing then whatever, the line is clever.

Intended irony with pulling a straw man yourself?

If so, you're catching on to being clever brilliantly. :b: :y:

But seriously, I don't really give a fuck either. You don't find it particularly clever--and I do.
