@Bigray, yes, that's the plan.

Unfortunately, the Department Of Justice will not let that fly. The feds are going to be all over these states if they try to implement a method to supply consumers with taxed marijuana for recreational use. Washington doesn't allow for cultivation (unless I'm mistaken) but Colorado residents will be able to grow up to 6 plants.

California will be next.

They would have been first if the medical marijuana community had not gotten so greedy. They didn't want to rock the boat, and risk profits. Well, the DEA raided more dispensaries under Obama than they did under Bush, and most of those were in California. So much for that security they were afraid of losing.

California, then Oregon. Oregon's vote was 45/55%, very close for an initiative that didn't start out as strongly as these other two did. California's Prop 19 performed similarly in 2010. These states will be next, without much doubt. Massachusetts also has a good chance of being one of the first few states to legalize.

Beyond that, it's anyone's guess. You won't find anything going on in the South, but the East and West Coast will start the trend, and it will move inward from there. Decriminalization measures will also start popping up in municipal and state voting booths more frequently, and you might even catch more legislative action on behalf of state representatives.

It's an exciting time for the reform movement.

Well, it is a drug.

Caffeine, alcohol, and tobacco are drugs as well. As far as the reasoning behind considering marijuana a dangerous drug, well, there's a lot of misinformation and political bullshit involved.

Abraam, you said the East Coast but I strongly disagree. I live in Pennsylvania, and I can tell you there is not way a law like that would be passed in ANY of the Mid-Atlantic States or the lower New England States. The only way it would be legal here would be if the Federal Government lifted the prohibition for the whole country. I think it will obviously start west, but move East at the steady pace, so that we might start passing laws over here around the same time the South does....200 years from now lol.

Interesting....I could see this turning into a state vs federal rights issue.

Yes. Caffeine is a socially acceptable drug, but a drug nonetheless.

Perhaps I painted with too broad of a brush. New Hampshire and Massachusetts, without much doubt. Beyond that, you'll see some New England states moving forward with voter initiatives. The further down, or inward you go, the less likely it becomes in the near future. It will be East and West though, for a bit. The Midwest voters are still too socially conservative.

Without a doubt.

This is one of those things that liberals and true conservatives can agree on though: it's not the federal government's place to tell us whether or not we can smoke a joint after work.

Less of a fight, you guys will be legal nationwide before us. Pressure from the United States is largely to blame for the resistance to legalize in nations that are more accepting of Marijuana, not just in North America, but abroad as well. The DEA gives out certifications for compliance among nations debating drug reform. We'll yank that away from anyone that disagrees with us.

TBH I don't know why the federal gov't doesn't just do this for all 50 states. We'd be out of debt in no time.

I must admit that I find the prospect of it becoming legal really exciting.

Plus, it will create millions of jobs and possibly re-energize the agricultural system that's pretty much vanished from the US.

but what the fuck do we know? The whole nation might get high, and everyone besides immigrants end up losing their jobs.
