Hell: The Sequel appreciation thread

Postby mattthegod » Sep 12th, '12, 21:59

So I haven't been a trshady member for too long but I happened to notice there aren't a lot of talks about this EP. To me? When I heard fast lane I was EXTREMELY excited to hear this. It was a raw return to what we all love from shady. And when the EP came out it met every one of my expectations. Its been over a year since this has come out and this is still a personal classic to me. Much better than relapse and quite a bit better than recovery as well. That's just me though. I noticed the talk surrounding this thing kinda died down so tell me what you guys like about it. I'm Matt btw for the people who didn't see my topic in the ''And you are?'' section. OH and btw.. lets not act like Welcome 2 hell wasn't fucking classic eminem :worship: And just to say I do think relapse is very good and recovery is great. Relapse gave many hints he had it in him and recovery confirmed it. I just don't like the people who think that since eminem said relapse sucks.. that MUST mean its his worst effort.

Thanks much appreciated . I feel like your right about Lighters, but its a good track nonetheless and 1 track won't fully ruin an EP. This is what relapse should have been lol. Its shady at his shadiest and it would've been the perfect comeback. And I'm a HUGE Royce fan so he was nice to hear.

How so? Relapse is shady but its with an accent. Last time I checked slim shady was a crazy lyrical beast with a normal voice.. not some guy with an accent. I got the crazy lyrical beast on the EP I didn't get him on relapse. Was he crazy on Relapse? yes. Was he a lyrical monster on relapse? Nope. Good but not the beast we know as slim shady. He tried to be slim shady on relapse. It worked on a few songs but mostly it failed. On the EP it worked on every track except for lighters and take from me because he wasn't trying. Btw Insane I agree about A kiss going in to lighters. It didn't feel right. I like the song, but it didn't feel right.

I never said Relapse was a wack album. I like it. I played songs like Same song & dance and Stay Wide Awake more than anything else throughout 2009. Its just as an album it fell short. I like it but it fell short. Whereas H: TS met every one of my expectations and blew me away with every track (aside from lighters). Oh and btw. I am a guy who prefers sslp over tes. So hopefully its not wierd that I prefer recovery slightly to relapse haha.

On certain songs yea but not the whole thing. It felt very inconsistent to me. And at times even dull. I can say the same thing about recovery too. I like them both and he was a lyrical beast at certain times on both. But as a whole? Nope. Not to me anyway. His flow has always been great. H: TS to me? is on par with his 1st 3 releases. If I were to get asked what albums/songs eminem was a beast on I'd say SSLP, MMLP, TES/8 mile, H:TS.

Yes, we get it, you like to stick your dick into the the hole of the Relapse CD. Okay.

That was a joke, if you didn't get it.

I love this EP, always have. I just hate hearing the end of "A Kiss" then hearing Bruno's faggy voice. It makes me cringe.

Surely its not a joke if its actually true :( ?

haha I apologize in advance if I do seem to go on about Relapse too much, I just felt it needed to be said here.

Nah dude I mean shit I get it. I like that album a lot too. I feel like when recovery came out everyone loved it for the 1st few months. Hell some people even said it was on par with MMLP (thats bullshit). Then after that everyone started to love relapse. I prefer recovery. But I always get mad at people that automatically dismiss relapse as his worst album just because Em said so. Clearly Encore is his worst. Notice how he never ever mentions it. Hes had a positive thing to say about each one of his albums and almost NEVER mentions Encore. Btw I would've made a relapse vs. recovery thread but that seemed to be discussed on here WAY to much. And if I did there'd be 30 different posts of me changing my mind.

Welcome to Hell and Above the Law are the only ones I still listen to... but it was a pretty enjoyable CD.

Em rhymed his ass off on Relapse.
H:TS is great. Em`s verse on ATL is epic. Lighters don`t belong there.

This EP is still the best eminem project since The Eminem Show/8 Mile era to me. Lyrics are venomous the production is a MAJOR improvement from Recovery. This might be the best Royce project since Death Is Certain to me as well. Its a personal classic I'd give it a 9.5/10. This is vintage shady flat out. Yes I would put it above relapse lyrically and recovery lyrically as well. It's really not even close. I remember the day fast lane came out and I hadn't been as excited for an Eminem project as much as I was like that since 2002. Shit its probably even better than Devils night. Skill level eminem was equal on DN and H:TS but give me Royce over anyone in D12. If I had to rank each eminem/bad meets evil/d12 album it would be like this

1. MMLP-10/10
2. SSLP-9.9/10
3. TES 9.9/10
4. Hell: The sequel 9.5/10
5. 8 mile soundtrack 9/10
6. Devils night 9/10
7. The slim shady EP- 8/10
8. Relapse 8/10
9. Recovery 7.5-8/10
10. Infinite- 7/10 (underrated)
11. Re-Up- 7/10 (No Apologies alone makes this a 7 :worship: )
12. D12 World- 5.5/10
..I pretend encore never happened. 5 & 6 and 7 & 8 can be easily flipped. 10 & 11 can be as well along with 8 & 9

Menzo wrote:The only tracks on Hell: The Sequel that really sounded like vintage Slim Shady were:

- The Reunion
- I'm On Everything
- A Kiss

Meaning...those were the only tracks where he seemed sharpest with his funny lines, vivid imagery, punchlines. The rest of the songs felt more like 'Fire Marshall' - a lyrical bombardment.

Nicely put.
