Relate to Eminem

Postby Tomer666 » Nov 15th, '12, 21:06

I'm talking about the SSLP, MMLP and TES era. I know it might sound stupid to ask but I had thoughts about Eminem's music, and most people say that he became what he is today because of many reasons but one big reason is that people can relate to Eminem and what he says.
And I wonder, how many people have actually experienced what he says? Having a crazy mother, knowing your wife is you-know-what etc.. I believe most of the people who listen to him had never experienced it but yet they still say they can relate to what he says in his songs.

So, my question is, if do you relate to what he says then what do you define as "relate" when it comes to music? Like, when someone says he relates to what Eminem says he basically means that he understands what he says and understands his feelings?

Sorry for the dumb question though, just had a lot of debating about it recently.

I don't need to nor care if I relate to what Em or a rapper is saying.

It's not about that for me. It's really easy to write thoughts you know most people will think aka "I'm depressed", (reaction: "oh wow, I get depressed... this shit is deep!")...

Em didn't actually get huge because of that.

He did after The Eminem Show, but his first two albums were about concepts, provocation, storytelling and lyrical originality. It was about ideas, how he presented them, humour; descriptive writing, wit, being daring, social commentary, many things much better than just relating.
