It was on a posthumous album put out on Bad Boy Records; so presumably Diddy or someone at the label asked Em for the feature.

I remember an interview where Em talked about this feature. They interviewer said it generated a lot of buzz and was a crazy time for hip hop and Eminem agreed. Eminem then went on to say how quickly he wrote this verse and that he doesn't understand why some people go crazy for verses like that which aren't as well crafted lyrically (he was talking about rhyme schemes) as other verses that don't receive as much attention.

Fucking dope verse though, it's a classic song for sure.

I think given the circumstances... The fact that Eminem was pretty unknown and B.I.G is pretty much considered the GOAT Em went in and spit this fucking crazy verse, I don't think people really knew what to expect from him but after hearing that verse people knew he was legit and not just some gimmick.

The whole 'met me before' rhyme scheme was great. I really think he outshone biggie on that song. Em's flow was better too which says something.
