As a kid, I used to think to it was just funny and awesome to listen to without really knowing why Em said that particular line or why he approached this subject in that way.
I just used to listen to it and not care about the lyrics.

Now that i'm old enough to understand his music, I find it much more entertaining and much better.

Everybody in this thread seems to be like this. I'm the same way.

Yeah, me too.

I'd disagree to an extent. I've found artists who have out-developed Em since the days when he was my #1 and thus I've moved on to them. Em's music is still great to me, but not as good as some other artists currently.

(for the record i'm not speaking objectively, i mean specifically for my taste)

I was 15 in 1999 when I discovered Eminem. MMLP and TES were my world. I found out about SSLP after those albums. The internet wasn`t like this back in that time, no Youtube back then. I think people appreciated music more then.

Well, as I was saying, I was living with Em`s music. Now, I`m 28. I still love his music. I can`t say I have grown out of it. But I`m not as hyped about it as I was. Things just change. I have so much more things to do in my life and other priorities then I had when I was a teenager. I don`t have the time to just lose a few hours by listening to music and doing nothing.

And I agree, if you get older and you say that you don`t like Em`s music that you liked as a teenager-you never really understood it.

His old stuff just kinda bores me now. I find a lot of it pretty corny. Anyone else feel this way? Songs like SFTM and Til I Collapse are still amazing, but a lot of his songs just seem boring/childish. Anyone else growing away from him? This isn't hate btw, he obviously wasn't trying to be mature. The content just bores me now. Shit like Illmatic and Ready to Die still sounds golden to me.

Tbh, I know what you mean, but if it makes you feel any better, it's not just Em that this kind of thing happens with (and not just Britney Spears, either), and I'm not sure if "outgrowing" (I know you didn't use that exact phrasing, but people have) is really what it is. I think it's more just that you are constantly changing as a person and your taste isn't always going to be consistent. It isn't necessarily that you grew up and out of him, but just that he's less your taste now.

That and a lot of Em's early work relied on shock and crazy punchlines so it makes sense that 10 years later, you'd kind of be like, "ok, I get it. I've heard this joke before." To tell you the truth though, I wasn't the most hardcore fan until pretty recently, so I heard MMLP all the way through for the first time when I was about 24, and I thought it was awesome. NOW I'm kind of like, the joke's over (still like the album, but it IS better the first few times) but I guess my point is that liking it in the first place had nothing to do with me being an immature teenager.

I find that as I get older, I definitely can't stand certain songs I used to LOVE, but some of the songs I had thought were skippable, I really really like now. The fact is that Em IS objectively good (well as close to objectively as possible). Mature adults have always liked and respected his work, so it's not like you have to be a teenager to take it seriously.

I'm very faithful to the music I like. I remember having 13 and listening to some rock bands that I still love. I don't think my taste for music have changed.

When it comes to Eminem's songs it depends on my mood. I hardly ever listen songs like" Big weenie" or "ass like that", but not now, not before. What I find childish is people pretending the old Eminem coming back, with the blonde hair , and his old attitude.

Just because Eminem doesn't come off as money hungry doesn't mean that he doesn't loves making that paper-all of us would. Their is also the boredom factor. He wouldn't have anything to do in life without rap because his hobbies are lackluster. He likes to stay relevant to feed his ego and overcome his insecurities. Just because he is Eminem doesn't mean that he doesn't subconsciously care about all of these normal entities. He's only human.

And as I listen to his old art, I always wonder if Eminem ever listens to his old self and asks himself why he can't sound even a fraction of what he once was. Rapping extra fast doesn't mask your flow. It might make him sound different, but the negatives tend to outweigh the positives. First and foremost, Eminem needs to ask himself what got him going in his career in the first place and he should also remember where he came from. No way would Eminem from 10 years ago be rapping with Katy Perry, Rihanna, Lil Wayne, or Skylar Grey.

This doesn't make sense.

This implies he's trying to sound like he did :confusion:

He may be trying to recapture his attitude from back then, but he's INTENTIONALLY sounding much, much different. You'll find a video of him in 2002 saying 'if you sound the same as on your last album, what's the point'. Irrespective of your opinion on the new styles, the point is: he's not trying to sound like back then and failing, so "can't even sound..." doesn't make sense...

He wants to sound different every album.

It's okay to sound subtly different but not an extreme disparity. Listen to Jay Z or Nas, they don't sound drastically different from they old selves. I mean listen to Em's voice in Relapse. That was completely utter nonsense and you cannot tell me that isn't the case.

I do listen to Jay-Z and Nas. Nas sounds the same as he did 200 years ago. Which is why he's a boring artist to follow. If you want that = you got Nas!

Yep, Em does sound drastically different, as was the intent. And I love the Relapse style. Why the fuck would I want a repeat of what I already have? I already HAVE SSLP, I already HAVE MMLP, TES... I don't want him to do it again, I want something new. Every time.
