See here is where you're wrong. You're implying that Tech doesn't make sense. He has some out-there bars, definitely. But no more than most other rappers with that amount of material. As for being dope and rhyming whilst chopping, that's all Tech is
Willy wrote:He knows when to sacrifice a rhyme for the integrity of the message
See I would never do this. I would find a way to make it rhyme before moving on to the next bar. That's what Tech does. Please understand that I'm not saying this is how it should be. That's not within my right to determine. I'm saying Tech is the guy satisfying listeners with that need

edit: and yeah that was the free i was referring to :y:

Tech is a flow guy that is unimpressive lyrically. My definition of dope and yours are different... but we've argued this enough times lol.

What about that is impressive lyrically? That's a perfect example of tech sacrificing lyricism for rhymes.

The fact that he carries that same multi from beginning to end so smoothly is like the holy grail to me. Of course there's other artists who have done it but Tech has like 15 of those fuckin verses

If that's not your thing then I guess we are just genuinely that different, but I can't find anything else in hiphop (and music as a whole) that excites me more than extremely long and chained out multi's mixed with crazy fast/original flows. Right now Tech N9ne is the guy for that, and I wish there were more like him.

still, i find myself very alone in this so this is me submitting and saying you guys are right and that im a simple minded listener who should be more educated on the subject.

Then you're impressed by his rhyming, not his lyricism.

Also, I'll give you this song as a treat

Thanks for that, I collect them (let me know if you're ever looking)

Anyway, according to google, lyricism is defined as "An artist's expression of emotion in an imaginative and beautiful way; the quality of being lyrical."

Why doesn't that apply to rhyme/flow? It's expression of emotion.

Blah I've already had this argument and don't feel like having it again. Rhyming and flow themselves don't contribute to lyricism, they're just extra factors in the verse. The words themselves and the meaning of the words is what concerns lyricism.

Right but without rhyming and flow you're just talking. When you rhyme words with rhythm (flow) you are suddenly rapping. I'd argue that they are just as important if not more important than the words themselves when we're talking about melody.

Exactly, but we're not talking about melody, we're talking about lyricism. Poets and spoken word artists can be lyrical without rhyming or having flow.

LMAO Blu is GOAT
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.

You can be lyrical without metaphors.

Your reasoning is bad for the whole "rhyming isn't a part of lyricism".

Rhyming words is a part of lyricism.
