Conservative or liberal?

Postby Block » Nov 18th, '12, 20:59

Liberal, conservative, neither? (this is written on my phone so forgive mistakes)

I'll start with liberals since they annoy me the most. It's well known that Obama is a socialist with communist-like traits. He also leans hard on the liberal agenda. I have a few quarrels with his way of running the country, but even more so with the fuck head liberals who support him. Where to begin? Israel was attacked last week with a barrage of missle fire by a muslim country. Israel retaliates with pin point accuracy and ends up doing more damage with 2 missiles than an entire barrage did to their country. The liberals are pissed. What the fuck? I've read entire articles about how the U.S. needs to get away from israel and stop helping them, etc. do these fucks even realize what they're saying? Liberals tend to 'stand for the little guy' (or so they claim), while they support the Arab countries that are surrounding 1 tiny little land mass the size of Rhode Island, trying to bulky them from their land. So much for 'standing for the little guy'.
Welfare.. Really? Does this even need to be discussed? Let's give even more money to the junkies. That has proven useful in the past...

Revoking peoples' rights to own guns? That is the definition of unconstitutional. If this happens, how are people ever meant to defend themselves? I'm sorry, but I dont have enough faith in my government to defend me--especially when they're the ones we need defending AGAINST.

Allowing illegal aliens in this country and making it easier for them to gain citizenship.. Wow. Our economy is fucking terrible. We have absolutely no jobs available, but you want to allow even more people in to join the welfare party?

There are plenty more, but these stick out right now.

Conservatives. My only problem with conservatives is their preaching God everywhere. If you can't agree with their core policy:

"Conservatives believe in personal responsibility, limited government, free markets, individual liberty, traditional American values and a strong national defense.  Believe the role of government should be to provide people the freedom necessary to pursue their own goals.  Conservative policies generally emphasize empowerment of the individual to solve problems. "

Generally, they look and sound okay. Except they believe in a fictional book and tend to use that as a guiding light.

So what side are you?

Personally, i'm not either. While I agree with points made from both ends, and am annoyed by both ends, I can't willfully identify with

I agree with points on both ends as well and wouldn't classify myself as either. I took a test in AP Gov last year and I was almost directly in the middle. I was at a -.6 with -10 being completely liberal and 10 being completely conservative.

I'm much more liberal in my views than conservative.

I never liked to pick a side - because what if on one topic that side is wrong. I'm not going to stand with them - just because I share their title.

I prefer to stand on the side and chime in when one of them say something I like and agree to. But over time, I've found I have to ensure it's not double talk and ask questions to ensure no one's personal agenda is being served here and I'm just falling into place and agreeing - to only 50% of it being heard.

Like I want this word to be a better place (I agree but did not ask "WHAT" would be considered a better place and how they hope to get there).

It's just kinda the blanks they dont' feel in you have to worry about.

I believe government has a big role to play in society.

Probably slightly biased from the book I'm reading.

We took a test in AP Gov as well, and the spectrum was -24 ~ 24 (-24 being far left/Liberal)

I was -22...

And yes, I agree with most Liberal viewpoints and disagree whole-fucking-heartedly with some Conservative viewpoints. Doesn't help they preach their God every step of the fucking way.

I'm 18 and didn't register to vote; mostly because I honestly don't give a shit. I'm getting out of America soon anyway.

1984 is a great book

Our teacher made us read that book and write an essay on what we think about it.

After we turned it in, he cut them all in front of us, then put them in a shredder.

Next class, we walked into a dark room, he had the TV on with a video..

The video was a secret camera in the top corner of the day he destroyed our essays.

That was some crazy shit.

I really don't keep up with politics that much but if I had to choose than yeah I guess I'll say I lean more towards the left than the right; both sides have obnoxious followers that don't know when to clam it and like to depict the other side as hilarious newspaper caricatures that have no bearing on reality though.

I can't say I disagree with most of the OP other than gun control, now bear with me I'm not up for some complete tyrannical overhaul that suggests throwing the baby out with the bathwater hell my dad is somewhat of a gun enthusiast though it does pertain to his job and one keynote is that he lives in the Philippines where it's rife with corruption and just about every restaurant or mall you enter you're greeted with a security guard toting a shotgun but yeah. Anyways I'm not really on either side as both have flaws but the anti gun control side should really argue from any stance but the militia one, gun vigilantism is flawed and rightfully illegal for the same reason that vigilantism is outlawed. In the event that such a situation does happen where we "need" guns to defend ourselves from the govt. it won't be pretty at all and will most likely mirror Libya in that regard, the damn chaos and anarchy ensued will be far from romanticized and the areas will no doubt be terrifingly crime ridden.

Also the whole argument that guns don't kill people, people kill people is retarded yeah I know a knife, katana, blunt object, basically any improvised household weapon can be used to go on rampages i.e. the knife stabbings in China, it's far harder to actually mass kill several amounts of people with said "weapons". Yes the incident was tragic and unfortunate but we'd be look at a lot more deaths rather than mere injuries (and I don't mean to say that to undermine them) if the person had an actual firearm in his possession. Maybe in buttmoose Arkansas or any other state where they have outdoor walmart gun stores and a huge hunting culture whatever but here in the northeast especially in cities I really don't see the point.

Now I'm not saying we should go on a witchunt and crucify anyone with guns or shit like that, there's too many variables to deem how we know how many crimes guns prevent just as we don't know how many crimes gun control prevents. However I hate when people take faulty data and use that to make correlations as to whether or not gun control is truly effective or not like using Russia as an example as to why gun control is useless when the country damn literally fell into chaos. It's about as disingenuous as using Sudan as an example for gun control. http://theacru.org/acru/harvard_study_g ... roductive/. When people compare countries it usually devolves into a huge waste of time as there are too many variables plus culture and poverty rate are extremely relevant in the context. Without gun control laws Japan would still be relatively the same for example. And yes I know banning guns results in gun distributions that mirrors the prohibition a catch 22 if you will. Btw I don't think banning shotguns or rifles is practical but I really don't see the use of semi automatics or handguns which are easily attainable and concealed and are easy for mass shootings.

Liberals don't want to remove your guns, they want to remove assault rifles and place stricter conditions on pistols. On top of that, they want to start studying the types of people that commit atrocious crimes like in Aura and Newtown and never sell them guns or let them around guns. Period. Fuck your rights if you're willing to kill a bunch of innocent children (aka the mentally insane.) The moment they attempt to take our guns away I will agree with you but I don't think that's the case and the NRA, in this case, is wrong with its solution of putting volunteers with guns to protect our schools (how quickly did we forget about Zimmerman?)

I disagree with your statement about Israel. That one little tiny country is stronger than all it's surrounding countries combined. Syria, Palestine, Egypt, Tunisia, Libya are all politically and economically in turmoil. My last two statements are almost direct result of U.S. intervention. Plenty of people, including myself, believe its time we stop determining our presidency based on its support for Israel. But you know that will never happen because Israeli lobbyist are one of the strongest groups in US.

Also, while your statement about welfare is partially true. If we remove it completely, what do we about all those single moms and dads whom depend on that income? I think instead of getting rid of welfare we need to fix it. The economy was awful a couple years back and fresh out of college adults could not find work. Obama gave them an extension on their loans since they could not find work. These and a few other agendas that are almost neccessary in a time of recession were socially implemented but of course, I'm sure that makes him a Muslim, Kenya-born, Socialist right?

Lol at the illegal aliens statement...Come on bro, technically every single person in the USA is an illegal alien or did you forget our magnificent history? Or do you realize that illegal aliens are really only taking jobs that no one else wants like the extremely hard labor of picking fruits?

Conservatives base values are great and all but if you truly believe that conservatives still stand for those same values then you are delusional. (see tea party)

I agree with the fact that them preaching God is ridiculous especially since our constitution specifically says freedom of religion. But the fact that you can only mention that as a bad thing about conservatives makes me believe you truly agree with their 2012-13 conservative policy (which looks and sounds nothing like that statement you posted)

I'd just like to add that Obama is far from a socialist with communist traits lol. If anything, he's a social democrat. And i'm not American, but I'd be liberal.

We definitely don't run Israel.

We protect Israel no matter what they do. When they break their treaty agreements by making illegal settlements on the west bank, we will at most say "please don't do that", to which they will respond "Fuck you". We block Palestinian statehood with our UN Security Council veto authority, and of course provide them with military technology and support.

Personally, I don't give a fuck about Israel. I'm not interested in America being in that part of the world, and I'm sure that most of the people in that part of the world (save for Israel) don't particularly care for us being there either. At the same time, we feel the need to try to keep that area secure due to the flow of resources necessary to keep the world turning, so what can you do?

I don't care who's right, who's wrong, whatever...I just don't like the fact that we're fucking around over there at all.

Agreed, Canada definitely has a more peaceful foreign policy.
