That list is not accurate dude.

Of course the list is accurate. One double disc sold = 2 normal albums sold. So Outkast actually sold 5,700 000 albums but since it's a double disk they count it as more than 10m.

And I guess MC Hammer isn't on the list because his album was not released during the "Soundscan era"

You guys are comparing Certifications (based on net-shipment) = RIAA and Over-the-counter sales = SoundScan

I posted this a couple of months ago. It may help.

NextEpisode wrote:Details are important.

RIAA certifes albums based on their net-shipment multiplied by the amount of discs (that the album in question is containing). Note that we're talking about shipments here, not over-the-counter sales.

SoundScan, on the other hand (which is the source for Billboard, the official US charts) counts 1 album with 2CD's, 10CD's, or even a 100CD's as just 1 sold album. This is actually the industry-standard around the world.

So, there is no "correct" way of counting sales. My personal preference though, is to just count the amount of copies the album sold, not discs.

Thanks a lot NextEpisode. :y:

bigray, if a double disc sells 100 albums, SoundScan counts it as 50

Np. I'd probably phrase it like this, though (to avoid confusion):

If a double disc (2CDs) album, sells 50 copies/albums (=100 discs)...
- RIAA counts it as 100.
- SoundScan counts it as 50.

;)
