Why Joell Ortiz is my favorite Slaughterhouse member

Postby tadpole25 » Jan 6th, '13, 16:48

1. He has the most personality
2. He has the most versatility

I like all of Slaughterhouse, but Ortiz is easily my favorite.

He's the most emotional member. He can make make me laugh one minute and pump my adrenaline in the next, often times in the same verse. While he's the most humorous of the group, he never becomes a clown, as many of his songs are darker and realistic. He can be a comedian without it blemishing his hardcore image. Considering his roots, he's also one of the hardest and probably pushed through more hardship than the other members of the group.

His flow is very versatile. Budden and Crooked, for example, (great rappers, btw) are consistent, but they're too consistent to the point where they sound the same like they have a formula they use for every song. Ortiz sounds different in each of his verses.

He can go offbeat or completely change his flow in the middle of a song, whereas the other members stay the same throughout the whole verse. He can deliver it both fast and slow, both lighthearted and viciously hardcore.

Maybe words offensive - free speech I don't fear it

Royce? Seriously?

I could understand his Bar Exam flow and his Hell the Sequel flow, and all the work he did before that.

But can you admit that Royce's verses in the WTOH album were painfully weak?

damn, i been meaning to start a Joell Ortiz appreciation thread. the guy is dope as fuck. i'll be back later with some great examples, but "A Good Man Is Gone" always comes to mind when I want to showcase his talent. I still remember hearing Brooklyn Bullshit for the first time and being like ooooooooh shit hahaha.

4. Joe Budden. His voice gives me a headache.
3. Crooked I. Though he is probably the most lyrical, he is very predictable.
2. Royce. He would be my favorite but his performance on WTOH makes me facepalm.
1. Joell Ortiz. Most versatile, very lyrical, can be deep when he wants to and can rip your head off when he wants to.

With the exception of me liking JoeBudden, the guy above me said it perfectly.

Yeah, Crooked is too consistent.

He has a great flow, but it's so predictable that it's the same exact flow.

He's an MC more than a rapper. An MC rhymes words; a rapper tells stories.

Crooked rhymes words well, but I wish he was better at leaving behind a message.

I do feel like some parts of songs have like 40 seconds of crap noises, must be him.

Too far, Crooked can write great verses too.
