favorite cologne

Postby tadpole25 » Jan 6th, '13, 17:56

I have a friend who has a giant cologne collection and he gives me a lot of samples and I've been trying some stuff out. I used to only wear Cool Water, but now I'm trying other things.

Three rules about cologne by the way (that half of guys don't follow):
1. It's not a replacement for a shower
2. Only wear a little bit. It's not good to be that guy who wears too much cologne.
3. Wearing cologne to pick up women is lame. Wear what you like instead of trying to please people.

That said, here are my favorite colognes:

M7 by Yves Saint Laurent
Fahrenheit by Dior
Midnight in Paris by Van Cleef
One Million by Paco Rabanne
Dior Homme Intense by Dior
Pour Homme II by Gucci
Rive Gauche by Yves Saint Laurent
Pure Malt by Thierry Mugler
Eau Fraiche by Versace
New Haarlem by Bond no. 9
Wall Street by Bond no. 9
Aventus by Creed
Green Irish Tweed by Creed
Millesime Imperial by Creed
Silver Mountain Water by Creed

I can't stand most of the cheap celebrity fragrances by the way. And Aramis is god awful.

Anyone else get into this hobby?

acqua di gio is a very nice one, probably one of the best fresh scents out there

the only problem i have with it is that it's way too common (so many guys have it) and i like to wear unique things.

but whenever i do wear ADG i do get compliments from women.

polo blue and armani code are nice ones. light blue smells too typical to me.

ever since i've sampled the higher-end $200+ colognes, it's hard to go back to most of the cheap designers though.

burberry london is probably one of the few cheap colognes that could go on par with the ones in the triple digits.

Just Silver:

Bond no. 9 is a niche (which basically means exclusive) perfume house in New York that makes unisex fragrances based on parts of New York. Their bottles usually sell from $130 to 230 depending on size. Most of their offerings are way too pricy for what you get, but New Haarlem (one of my favorites) is great if you want to smell like coffee, french toast, sugar, butter and syrup. Wall Street also has a salty grassy cucumber feel to it that I really like. Bleecker Street is great if you like the smell of blueberries and fresh cut grass together.

My favorite expensive house though is Creed. Their fragrances sell for $315 for a 4 oz bottle, but you can find legit ones on the internet for $140.

Green Irish Tweed is very similar Cool Water (CW copied it), but its much more natural and ten times better (easily worth the money if you have it).

Millesime Imperial and Silver Mountain Water by Creed are easily the two best fresh colognes I've ever tried, but they don't last very long on the skin.

Also, Aventus by Creed has to be my all time favorite. It's pineapple, apple, a little vanilla and birch, which smells like a lot of bonfire smoke. Ladies love Aventus, it's unlike anything. And I've become helplessly addicted to its charm myself. It's in a league of its own.
