I love ASAP rocky and UGK and when Still Tippin came out I was definetely bumping it but I never bothered to check out any of DJ Screw's work itself. I found a bunch of his tapes on youtube and was blown away!! I know I am more than ten years late to the game but Screw's contribution to music was monumental to say the least. to me, its a whole different listening experience. youtube has his tapes in full and I dl it directly from there so each tape is one music file. they're usually over an hour long and I love it because it is great chilling music - you can just let it ride through and its a great vibe. i love how he screwed up alot of famous songs (a really good one is Tupac's Heartz of Men, off his Killuminati tape) but he also featured alot of what we would consider "no names" who just happened to be in the same room as he was when he was working. best of all, you don't have to be high or fucked up to enjoy the music - in fact listening to it sober makes you feel high, it's absolutely ridiculous.
so far I have:
Killuminati
3 in da mornin' Part 1 AND 2 (Part 2 is fucking awesome loll)
The Next Episode
It's All Good
Ridin Dirty
June 27th
Still Thuggin Pt. 2 (an all tupac tape, just found it, its gon be a trip haha)
That Classic 95
Screwed Up Texas
Waitin On A Slant
In God We Trust
i haven;t listened to all of them yet, they're each over a hour and a half long so itll take a hot minute loll. if yall can name some other tapes that are really worth finding, please tell. he had over 400 tapes so itll be a few years before i can get to all of em, but i gotta start somewhere right?
anyways, what are yalls thoughts on his music? I can't believe one man was the originator for a whole sub genre of music. fucking incomprehensible
