The Game vs 50 Cent

Postby tadpole25 » Jan 30th, '13, 21:04

This discussion is largely for fun. Don't take it too seriously or get angry over it. But it is an interesting comparison.

East vs West
I don't think 50 was ever king of the East, especially since Jay Z and Nas repped the eastside hard.
The Game, however, was probably the biggest mainstream rapper in the west in the 2000's decade as the West side died after the 90's. Game did more for his city, but only because his city was largely empty.

Image
50 Cent in 2003 had nice abs, the women wanted him. Girls, at least all the ones I knew, loved 50 Cent. He took a largely male interest and made women listen to it.

The Game had a more dark grim image about him. He's always been kind of scary looking (but not ugly at all), but he has that hardcore intimidating gangster look that the west needed.

Feud

50 Cent was a huge credit to Game's early success, no lie. But 50 Cent beefs with just about everyone (he's had like over 20 beefs). But the beef between them seems like it's over now. The Game's 300 bars is memorable, and 50 failed to put Game out of business. And in the later part of the decade, Game did much better than 50, who was practically unnoticed domestically from 06-12.

Reputation
50 Cent definitely has more fame. Everyone in the US knows who 50 Cent is, but people have no clue about any of the music 50 put out after Massacre. But internationally, he's making a ton off of what he released earlier in his career. In the US, though I say it's The Game.

Everyone knows who 50 Cent is. All our grandmas have heard of him. But if we're talking about people who are into rap, The Game definitely has been doing much better lately.

Features
Both rely on features to stay relevant, IMO. Major Distribution, come on. But Game uses them as much more of a crutch. While he's excellent at adapting to other people's rap styles, he often limits his own artistic contribution by relying so much on other artists.

Rap Technique
Both lack lyrically. 50 has more multi's but his rhymes are so cliche (bitch/shit/dick) and so repetitive. The Game has practically no multi's in his songs, but his rhyming is a little bit more creative. Neither are great lyricists. Both make up for it with flow and delivery. 50 Cent has a smooth easy-going naturally delivery and flow. Whereas Game often has a cathartic hardcore flow.

Albums
Get Rich will always be 50's most memorable, as Documentary will be for game). I think Get Rich is more listenable, unique and overall better than Documentary.

Self-Destruct, Curtis and Massacre were good, but not great. Doctor's Advocate, LAX, Red Album and Jesus Piece were all solid albums, but none of them will go down as the all-time greats. I prefer a majority of Game's albums though.

So. 50 had 1 classic album and fell off after that. Game seems to be coming close and closer to getting it, but ends up coming short.

Verdict
Both are close to equal in quality IMO.
I'll go with Game, personally. But if you pick 50 Cent, I wont be offended.

This is hard... I love The Game as much as 50 Cent. IMO The Game fell off of my radar with Jesus Piece.. it felt like he went mainstream to me. Fifty hasn't dropped off at all, he is higher on my list than he ever has, as soon as My Life came out I became VERY excited, I wasn't pumped for Jesus Piece, but I am for Fifty's Street King Immortal.
I choose 50 Cent

Street King Immoral could be a game changer

50 was the whole word instead of just a coast when he stormed trough

Not sure what it has to do with anything but women still get soaking wet when they see fif ( believe me i've seen it happen when i was in line for autograph by fif ) where i agree that game looks more 'scary' atm but fif looked way scarier when he came up

I wouldn't say 'Curtis', 'BISD' and 'T.O.S' where practically unnoticed, not as big as massacre/grodt but fif was still making great sales. I agree that 2006 was bigger for game, but the other years where fif's if one was to chose between them

Reputation
50 Cent definitely has more fame. Everyone in the US knows who 50 Cent is, but people have no clue about any of the music 50 put out after Massacre. But internationally, he's making a ton off of what he released earlier in his career. In the US, though I say it's The Game.

Game jumps on everything that is hot right now, he hasn't got his own kind of style anymore tbh, he's a band wagoner where as fif stays to his own style, mixes it up a bit here and there.

Features
Both rely on features to stay relevant, IMO. Major Distribution, come on. But Game uses them as much more of a crutch. While he's excellent at adapting to other people's rap styles, he often limits his own artistic contribution by relying so much on other artists.

I disagree, fif his mixtapes keep him relevant, people who hear them usually have a great response to them. Game on the other hand yeah, he does need features .. just look at jesus piece lol.

Rap Technique
Both lack lyrically. 50 has more multi's but his rhymes are so cliche (bitch/shit/dick) and so repetitive. The Game has practically no multi's in his songs, but his rhyming is a little bit more creative. Neither are great lyricists. I agree but I'd like to add that no one has a delivery like fif has, its amazing. Game his adaptability is amazing as well though.

Everything fif has put out is great in its own way, where I can't say this about game's work. I asked in the last one to post thread a while ago for songs by fif that were far below average and they could only come up with like 2.. Lax and red album and jesus piece were average at best and relied heavily on features..

So. 50 had 1 classic album and fell off after that. Game seems to be coming close and closer to getting it, but ends up coming short.

You goin ricky ross here boi ? fif hasn't fell off, he took a short break for other business but all his shit is still far above average

Verdict
Both are close to equal in quality IMO.
I'll go with Game, personally. But if you pick 50 Cent, I wont be offended.

50 is far superior over Game. I am a big fan of game's early work but it stops there lmao.

Great post Hage!
I Agree 100%
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.

are you sure about this quote? cause i've never heard 50 use syllable rhyming, but i kno game does occasionally...

Geffen, Interscope, now I got you in the scope
Spill the red ink on the paper, it's like my pen is broke
And this is what you all been waiting for
I'm the lost angel knocking on Satan's door
What the fuck y'all take me for?
I love you cause you hate me more
I'm Kobe on the Lakers floor, except I give you 84
Shake you like Haiti's floor
Walk up on you like "what's going on baby boy? "

occasionally. but i mean game's rhymes are less original. he almost always rhymes at the end of the line. so standard.

Definitely 50 for me.

I don't mind some older Game stuff but lately he just irritates me. His bipolar ass annoys me mostly. 50 is straight up. He's genuine. He doesn't say shit and take it back to the point that Game has and does.

His "rhymes" aren't the best. I'll give you that. But, Game is lacking in that department too.

And game has and never will reach the level of fame that 50 has reached. Not that it means much in the end.. But it was brought up. I think I'd pretty much take 50 over Game in pretty much any aspect, though..

:confusion: Curtis sold like 700k in it's first week and had gone platinum within two months.

Seems pretty noticeable there..

Personally I would take Power of The Dollar and GRODT over The Documentary.

Both are crap at rhyming but I enjoy listening to 50 more and surprisingly he seems like an intelligent guy off the mic.

^THIS

For me, my problem with 50 is he doesn't put out any music. I'm not all that hyped for Street King like I was for Jesus Piece. 50 relies on Em while Game collabs with everyone. Common, Kanye, Kendrick and others. Game was also on Xzibit's album twice I think. Love 50, always have but Game puts out better music and better albums period. While GRODT is the best from both of them, 50 hasn't put out anything truly great since then.

The Game takes a dump on 50 Cent from the top of the Empire State Building.

The Documentary > Get Rich or Die Trying
Doctor's Advocate >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> (x infinity) The Massacre
LAX >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Curtis
R.E.D. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Before I Self Destruct
Jesus Piece is likely a better album than Street King Immortal.

It really isn't up to debate. Game has been improving since his first day. 50 went to the shitter after he got rich and stopped tryin'.
