Were Em's "I Need A Doctor" verses

written during his hiatus/pill-era?

I never really paid much attention to it, but one line stuck out to me:

And I don’t know if I was awake or asleep when I wrote this

Obviously, Eminem is referring to his drug use. Not knowing whether or not he wrote his verses while he was high or sober.

But the question is, why would sober Em ask this?

It makes a lot of sense if this song was written during his hiatus, as rehab must have been hard for him and after losing Proof, Eminem must have felt like the only person there for him was Dr. Dre. He must have thought of the concept in rehab, jotted down a few lines like the one I quoted above, and then decided to finally come back to it years later because he thought A) the song would be terrible at the time if he released it or B) he was too busy with rehab and trying to get clean to release anything.

What do you all think?

Skylar said that Em wrote the verses when her and that producer met him in the studio. He went to another room and wrote them in 2 hours. Who knows, maybe he had some ideas from before.

That's just like a metaphor to imply he's blacking out with the verse.

Of course this wasn't written in his pill era, listen to how sharp the rhymes are and the rap style of it :/, it was written right around the time they recorded the track, it was written to inspire Dre to get out of his funk and he wrote the verses in like an hour.

Listen to the style 'pieces to the puzzle' puns etc., it's clearly Recovery-era.

Probably not because didn't Em get sober in 2008? I think. And he refers to the death of Dre's son which was August of 2008
