Now, just to clarify, I don't like using the terms "old Em" and "new Em," mostly because I think it's stupid and there should be no dividing line.
BUT, news is scarce so I figured we could have some discussion going.
These terms are commonly brought up whenever people discuss Eminem's music. So, what exactly divides Em in these two terms? In other words, what makes "old Em", old Em? And what makes "new Em", new Em?
Is it the use of drugs? Is it the blonde hair? Is it the writing style? Is it because Eminem now acts like a much more mature adult that isn't running around screaming "fuck you"?
Just to add to the topic, I'll give my two cents. There is a dividing line. I believe the dividing line is the writing style. Eminem's always been a technical artist, he's always focused on the rhymes. However, pre-hiatus, Eminem's words always flowed so smoothly; you wouldn't even notice a rhyme when he rapped e.g. "I'm Back".
Now, he's more focused on making it clear that he's rhyming five syllables at once; purposely bending words and acting much more...nerdy.
Just something I've noticed. Thoughts?
