Em's 'Fuck the Law' free...

Postby EminemBase » Mar 2nd, '13, 21:24

Here.

Should be taught as a fucking 'how to rap' example.

His use of that same scheme throughout, hitting on the same rhythmic downfall, with the use of those mutlies with not only not sacrificing but actually enhancing the content and the flow, the humour, the emphasis, the word choice... is all fucking perfect. This is how you rap.

I endorse this thread 100%
"So one last time, I'm back, 'fore it fades into black and it's all over, behold the final chapter in the saga, trying to recapture that lightning trapped in a bottle twice, the magic that started it all...tragic portrait of an artist tortured....trapped in his own drawings..." - Bruce.

I forgot who said it, but someone on this forum once said that Eminem's freestyles always seemed much more natural and better than his actual songs.

This was discussing his recent freestyles BTW, not his old ones.

Kinda true to be honest.
I consider this freestyle fairly recent....

Definitely feels/sounds more natural compared to say songs like 25 to life and even You're Never Over.

^ That's because he's conversationally talking to the listener / those around him in an entertainment setting, he's entertaining, so it's more direct - and conversational.

On songs on Recovery he's got a theme, or an aim and the flows are crafted and energized, they're intentionally layered and pumped, he's delivering an emotion or a story.

With this, there's no pressure, concept, hook, theme, he's just rattling off thoughts.

His freestyles are better than the album most of the time though. "Despicable" >

You mean Writtenstyle...this is not FREEstyle, FREEstyle is off the dome...this verse has been repeated in so many different versions over so many different beats

Freestyle was never meant to be off the dome. Never. It became like that but a freestyle is a verse that is free of style, it's the choice of the rapper to be off the dome. Very few rappers that I've seen can go off the dome.

when i used to FREESTYLE, for crowds of people it was always off the dome, matter of fact, most of the time it would go from freestyles to battles with random ass people from the crowds who wanted to battle, alot of rappers can go off the dome, they just choose not to

...What's your point?

Do you think we're saying it's off the top?

We know it's written :/, that's blindingly obvious lmao.

It's a free-verse. Written as an exhibition of skill, not for a song. It's a verse.

Who said it was off the top?

It's actually a FREESTYLE.

Kool Moe Dee:

"There are two types of freestyle. There’s an old-school freestyle that’s basically rhymes that you’ve written that may not have anything to do with any subject or that goes all over the place. Then there’s freestyle where you come off the top of the head."

In old school hip-hop, Kool Moe Dee says that improvisational rapping was instead called “coming off the top of the head”, and Big Daddy Kane says, "off-the-top-of-the-head [rapping], we just called that "off the dome" — when you don’t write it and [you] say whatever comes to mind”

OFF THE DOME... means off the dome. A freestyle is a written verse not for a song, an exhibition of skill. We all know this is a freestyle VERSE. People have come to associate freestyle with off the dome, but that's actually not how it was originally used or meant. So you're wrong.

Eminem grew up in that era, so by freestyle we associate him with written verses to exhibit skill, which he has done in every album era, "Despicable" being the most recent.
