I graduated from high school like 5 years ago and today I went there with a friend (also former classmate) to see some old professor of mine. This wasn't the first time that I was doing so but it's been a while nonetheless. And man, I thought it was going to be like bittersweet but it was mostly bitter. Shit is changed in so many ways. First thing, there's a security guy busting our balls, asking where we are going and stuff, and it was like they are taking the school too seriously. Now I think it's fine that they are being more cautious then it was when I was a student, but it seemed like they had the prejudice that we were doing something shady. Of course, I'm over-reacting a bit, it's not like we were treated badly but we didn't feel much welcomed either.
Next thing, half of the professors we saw were some new guys, and I'm pretty sure they've made it there with some heavy connections. They were mainly ladies around their 30's, and there was something gold-diggerish about 'em. Some of the layout is changed as well (it's more modern which I don't like), and also the students were on some hipsters tip. Back in '04 there were so many different types of people, you had a lot of rappers, a lot of rockers, a lot of nerds, and now it seems like it's all popular/rich kids.
Some of the professors didn't recognize us and some weren't very appreciative of our visit. I understand that times change and all, and I'm sure that everyone is having a great time there, but it feels like the humbleness and that alternative spirit is gone. I was disappointed to realize that I'd much rather study there in the time that I did, then now. If I had a little brother or whatever, until yesterday I would've been excited to send him to study there, but now, not so much.
So yeah, I know that this is some no1curr material, but just something that I wanted to share.
