The songs that are on there/aren't, aren't there for a real good reason, other than the original songs that were slated to be on the album- aka the 3 bonus tracks, leaked, so instead of just releasing the whole album like he should have, he took those leaked songs, which were good songs too, off the album & most likely replaced them with shitty, garbage songs like Ass Like That, Big Weenie, etc. I think Puke and Just Lose It, even with the 3 bonus songs on the original tracklisting, still would've made the cut, Puke because it was a Mariah Carey/Kim diss and you know he always puts those types of tracks- Kim, Superman, etc. on his album, & Just Lose It, for the purpose of it being the first single for the album.
I pretty much did this entire thread in a post one time. I took out the crappy songs & replaced them with the 3 bonus songs, & maybe My First Single as well, and that's what I came up with as a "what could've been," realistic type of tracklisting for Encore, before the leaks.
I obviously am not Eminem, nor do I know him personally, but I think if the 3 bonus songs hadn't leaked, as crappy of a song as it is, I still think My First Single might've made the cut, whereas I think songs like Big Weenie, Ass Like That, & Rain Man were album placeholders for the songs that leaked. This is just my opinion based on different things, but I could be wrong obviously.
Take out the 3 songs I mentioned above, & replace them with the 3 bonus songs on Encore that leaked early and it becomes a much better album. Obviously if another song that Em recorded around that time made the cut over a dismal song like My First Single, the album would've been even better, but pills are one hell of a drug. He wasn't his normal self musically around that time.
Also,
something that gets overlooked, but that people probably realize in the end, is that when Em stopped working with the Bass Brothers professionally, his music sounded different. When they produced for him on SSLP & MMLP, before Em started producing on his own, the beats were mostly dark, or different beats than Dre's beats. They were grimy, tons of piano in them, for example, the Marshall Mathers song on MMLP= perfect example, and great beat too btw, of a Bass Brothers beat IMO. Anyways, rambling aside, Em had different subject matter when he made songs over Bass Brother beats, in comparison to beats of his own, or Dre's obviously (who, aside from Relapse, usually only produced for Em for lead singles, etc.)
Aone10 wrote:^Leaks shouldn't affect these decisions, especially for an artist of Eminem's caliber. Years later no one cares about the leaks and those songs become forgotten. Even if he would've put the leaks on it, the album still would've gone multi-platinum, while being better than the final product the world got.
This, my sentiments exactly, well said.
