A$AP Rocky Calls Himself The Future Of Hip-Hop

A$AP Rocky speaks on the Golden Age of hip-hop and calls himself the leader of the new movement, and the future of hip-hop, during his interview with L'Uomo Vogue.

A$AP Rocky has no lack of confidence, that's for sure. When MTV's "Hottest Mcs" list came to light, Rocky had no problem venting his thoughts on the list and saying he should be at that #1 spot. He's even been brave enough to say that he's inspired Kanye West. Now, Rocky has once again voiced high opinions of himself, during an interview with L'Uomo Vogue.

We previously posted the rapper's cover photo on the magazine, and now an excerpt from the interview finds Rocky talking about the Golden Age of hip-hop, and the future of hip-hop. If you're wondering what or who the future of hip-hop is, Rocky claims it's himself.

"See, I love rap from the 90s, like Wu- Tang Clan or Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, and I honor all the pioneers of the genre who came before me. I think that, in a certain sense, we're experiencing something similar to that period. But if the first half of the nineties was called the ‘Golden Age', I want this period to be remembered as the ‘Platinum Age' or ‘Diamond Age'. Currently, there's a new artist movement that's rewriting the rules of hip hop and I'm their leader, king, and emperor, that's for sure. I'm the future of this genre," Rocky said.

Isn't it the opposite ? :-k

Still love him, this is always a good thing when a rapper is confident but not too much imo.

Wow, guy needs to get a fucking ego check.

If there's anyone who is leading the new golden generation of hip-hop, it's most likely Kendrick.

Everyone had a better verse than him on 1train, but then again, he has charisma and he appeals to people. So yeah.. He's kind of a leader.

He's a lot better than Wayne or Rick Ross, so I'm not against it tbh. But we all know K.Dot is the real deal

I agree with Trimss. ASAP is definitely a frontrunner of the mainstream and isn't a horrible rapper.

But yeah, K.Dot the real deal.

Guys like A$AP and Chief Keef definitely influenced Kanye's whole trap/party style. Kanye had no songs similar to "I Don't Like" and "Mercy" on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

Hopefully on his next album he gets back to his old style. Really dislike the "party rap" he's trying to pull off.

Actually, Asap isn't the only one to call himself the leader of the new generation, it's just that he isn't humble at all =p
Kendrick (Kdot) did it too this week in BDKMV (the remix with Jay-z) and I think that most of the new artists call themselves "leaders" so yeah, we shouldn't hate Rocky for that.

I would like to see the same shit again, East vs West coast. That would be so entertaining lol
