I can't hate either though, he's a good mainstream rapper.

Yeah, but I also think it's cool how he gives props where it's due; like calling Yelawolf underrated and Kendrick the best out right now.

I like ASAP, and I find these thoughts of his amusing. He's actually really humble, when he was talking about 1Train he really bigged up all the other guys, and said that Big KRIT had the best verse and stuff. He was also real chill when he met Rakim for the first time, and called his mom and shit. I think he's started saying stuff like this to get some attention and push some buttons, and just mess with the media I guess. I'm sure the Kendricks and the Big KRIT's won't be mad at him.

That video will always blow my mind.

This guy is definitely a frontrunner in this whole generation shift in Hip-Hop that was needed so badly.. especially since there are some great and creative rappers. I have no problem with ASAP Rocky. He really is a technical good rapper for the most part and chooses some really solid beats.

He just needs to switch things up. In the video I posted above, I'm pretty sure that is ASAP and only ASAP singing the hook. I'm not sure why he doesn't throw away his ghetto pride and just sing more to switch things up for the better. I don't have a problem with his content because he really is a pretty solid rapper typically.

And it's incredibly refreshing to see someone in Hip-Hop that actually knows how to shake up things with a wardrobe and creatively incorporate it into their music. ASAP Rocky is really a symbol right now. That's why he's so popular. People love what he stands for and his attitude. And he's actually a pretty humble guy. But why wouldn't he say this? I would.

In the words of Jigga Man... "Fall back, young." He's definitely up there though.

Well this is some grade a bull. He is acting like lil B or something.

He is certainly good, and is a part of the new generation by i think that saying he is the leader is wrong. Outright. There is no leader, there are so many subsections of rap that are all developing, there is no one rapper who is pushing everyone else along.

The awesome thing is this might inspire someone. There might be some brilliant writer that wants to change hip hop, and just needs that spark. He might read this statement, and just get pissed. Light a fire under his ass and get him motivated.

If not that extreme, it will at least help other rappers. If they don't like Rocky calling himself the leader, then step up to him & prove him wrong.

Either way, it's all good soap opera hip hop at it's finest

I agree... Hip Hop's a competitive thing, so he might not even be really saying it in face value... he may very well just be saying this to get other rappers to prove him wrong on purpose.

I definitely agree and there is nothing wrong with that.

For example, there is clearly a competition between Kendrick & Asap
Kendrick called himself the leader last week and I knew that Asap was going to do the same thing because they both said "Hip hop is a competitive thing, it's the jungle out there, if you don't say that you're the best, then don't rap because they are going to kill you"

It's a good thing because it's like a friendly competition... they definitely have respect for each other but they all want to be the leader of this generation.
I'm pretty sure that the next rapper to blow up will also call himself a "leader"
Is that wrong ? Nop

It's just like Eminem, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne etc, they all want to be #1 because they all know that rap is a competition but they still have respect for each other :y:
The same goes for a lot of groups, pretty sure that the Slaughter House members love each other but they all want to be the best :flutter:

Definitely. :y: It's out of love for the sport. I think Kendrick even said when asked about J. Cole (Cause Cole also says he's top tier if I remember correctly now and again), he said "The ultimate thing about it is two young, aggressive cats in Hip Hop just trying to continue the essence of rap. That’s why a lot of people look at us as the forefront guys. We’ll take that responsibility. We come for an era where we listen to the Jay-Z’s, the Nas’, the Big’s, and Pac’s. And we respect that." Cole himself said when asked about the joint album with Kendrick "It has to be, because we both love it. We're not gonna speak about it, it's not gonna be like, 'Yo man I killed you.'" so it's definitely that.

It's a belief in works. If you believe in something long enough, eventually you start to believe in it, given the world around you gives you proof.

:y: :y:

It made me think about 50 & Em.
I love 50 but imo, he didn't keep the competition in mind when he had to talk about Eminem...
I might be wrong but he was always talking as if Eminem was clearly better than him :-k

Well it might be due to the fact that 50 and Em are different in terms of lyrical ability and whatnot. Though 50 might not really care about competition, since he's mostly business now.

Then again Jigga-man's got a dynasty and I bet he still gets competitive.
