Then again, he wasn't/isn't to keen on Relapse, so I guess that's why he was like "nah. I don't want that crap released".
I think he was keen on Relapse though, he just pandered.
50 said he ditched R2 because he wasn't happy with the reaction.
Em has sly ways of re-working situations to look like he's always in control; such as not wanting to admit he made Recovery because of a bad critical and fan reaction to Relapse... but that's exactly what it was hence constantly mentioning the accents and apologizing and making it a public thing like that and then indications he really likes Relapse like on "The Reunion" etc.
Em spent years out of the spotlight and thought hard about how he was going to come back and then worked hard on a new sound, I don't think he would have come back with anything less than something he felt was THE SHIT; and at the time 50 said that too, he said Em isn't coming out until he's like THIS IS MY FAVOURITE SHIT EVER, and Em also said to Royce around the time that he had some of the best stuff he'd ever written...
I really don't think he changed his opinion of the material 360 within a month or two, he had plenty of time to sit with that work and every indication is that he loved it and you can't tailor something to such perfection without being sure and confident in it. He just couldn't accept a divided reaction to his return and felt like he was being counted out, so we got Recovery instead.
