DETROIT, MI - What does a former cross-dressing, makeup wearing 80s glam metal frontman have in common with Eminem?
Apparently a lot, based on comments from Twisted Sister's Dee Snider Tuesday morning on Slim Shady's Shade 45 SiriusXM station.
Snider told Sway Calloway, host of Shade 45's "Sway in the Morning", that Eminem's work reminds him of the creative effort he tried to put into his own music. Snider mentioned how rock and hip hop successfully address issues of youth angst and frustration.
"He turned me on and explained it to me and put where I could understand," said Snider of Eminem's music. "There was actually a writer who reviewed his record, explained what he was doing and then I started listening because my kids started listening.
"Then I was going 'Damn, I get it!'"
Snider said that he's always been a supporter of rock and rap collaborations and will continue to fight for free speech in the U.S. so artists of all genres can express their feelings and views in their work.
"I get (rap, specifically Eminem's music) now, and I've been a supporter of the rock and rap connection - which a lot of metal heads don't like," Snider said. "They're purists; I'm sure there's hip hop people that don't like metal. But whatever it is, I think it's great.
"i thinking any kind of creativity - people working together, like great soundtracks form years ago like 'Judgment Night' ... - (is good)."
What do you think of Snider's comments and Eminem's music? Looking forward to Eminem's new album this year?
