TES is Definitely His Best Overall

Postby EminemBase » Apr 6th, '13, 00:00

SSLP is more creative, MMLP is more daring and important, Relapse is more addictive but... I'm just randomly listening to TES again, on new speakers... this shit is definitely his best.

It even feels slightly weird calling TES a classic because it still feels kinda new, even though it's 11 years old, just something about it feels shiny and polished, that's how good it is...

Just the combination of everything as I listen again now - his flow, his lyrics, the beats, the consistency in themes and style and attitude, this album is close to perfection, and maybe the closest he will ever get to a perfect album. And the closest I have heard in hip-hop to one also.

No rapper before or since has been this good. I know it feels trite and repetitive to say but as I just listen to the fucking quality of his words and approach here, it's ridiculously good.

Just take for example "Cleanin' Out My Closet", as I'm listening now... this is the definition of a flow... there's like no break in the lines. Most rappers rap line to line, they're so lazy with structure, it's just all cobbled together sloppily, with rhymes everywhere, no pattern or continuation...

Where as here...

"Picket signs for my wicked rhymes, look at the times - sick is the mind of this mother fucking kid that's behind"... not only are the rhymes brilliant and naturalistic, and all completely necessary and relevant to what's being said as if just 'falling into place'... but at this little juncture here "look at the times", this is where most would break and restart something, but then he continues 'sick is the mind... OF THIS motherfucking... ", it's like an endless string of connection. Too good.

Well he actually did say that when he buying his own cd that he worked really hard on it & he himself thinks it's his best one overall.
I don't want you to be-lieve,
Cause this is something that I must use, to suc-ceed,
And if you don't like me then fuck-you,
Self-e-steem, must be fuckin' shootin' through the roof,
cause trust me,
My skin is too thick and bulletproof to touch me
I can see why the fuck I dis-gust you,
I must be allergic to failure, cause every time I come close to it,
I just sneeze but I just go a-choo, then a-CHIEVE

I definetley agree....but off topic for a sec, what kind of speakers did you get, I am looking for some currently.

Anyways, I have always appreciated TES more than SSLP and MMLP, because not only do I feel that overall it had the most "hit" songs at the time, but it also showed a more mature Eminem while still maintaining that immature side. I also think the beats were great, and I still listen to them to this day with a smile on my face. His flow and lyrics are also on point as well like you said, but what I really love on this is the way he can go from Cleanin Out My Closet, to Drips then Without Me, then Superman, then Till I Collapse. Those are totally different themed songs with different attitudes. I also think the skits were great too.

Yep but they all feel consistent and of the same family right?

Due to fact of the rap style and the production.

Which is the point I always make with "Beautiful" ruining 'Relapse' for me. Nothing to do with the theme or subject-matter... he's always been all over the place... well actually, SSLP and MMLP both had very consistent tones throughout BUT... the reason TES feels SO consistent is the production, and that's also why 'Recovery' feels so INconsistent.

'Relapse' I'd say feels even more consistent up until that track, because the style is so particular and Dre's production is so unique that they just create this magic, unheard combination that is totally of its own world. Then you're taking out of that world by a 2005-2007 hybrid rap-rock ballad.

Which is why I hope more than anything that for the new album... he makes sure of two things:

1. The production is consistent and of a certain style THROUGHOUT. Not this-and-that.

2. His rap style(s) are of the same family and there's no old tracks for other albums.

I hope those two things more than anything else. Because now more than ever he makes his styles so particular as it gets harder and harder to sound different from before, so it seems now... a track of a different family or with unfitting production stands out more than ever and ruins the overall effect.

Nah, if it ended at "Deja Vu", I'd even seriously have that discussion, as I LOVE Relapse.

But the last few ruin the lasting impression so much for me.

TES doesn't have a "Beautiful" or a CAB that takes me out of its world. It's consistent top to bottom.

Not THIS thread again. :coffee:

I agree 100%. In terms of what albums of Em's that I study for inspiration and things to learn from, it'd be between Relapse and TES. It's funny cause yesterday I was listening to Sing For The Moment and Business and it still sounds fresher than most songs released out today, which actually says a lot about most rappers to be honest.

Nothing comes close to MMLP for me.

I honestly prefer My Beautiful Dark Twisted fantasy to The Eminem Show. Kanye did one better with everything (except rhyming) on that album.

I don't think he did better in any regard.

He's nowhere near the lyricist, forget rhyming - just lyrics period - ideas, thoughts, wit, emotion... on no level does the album come near TES in any lyrical, conceptual or thematic regard.

Also, the theme, imagery and concept are all more solid and memorable to me.

And, the production may be grander on MBDTF but that doesn't make it better... the only beat which really sticks in my head like an Em beat from it is... well "Gorgeous" and "Hell of a Life", so maybe like two or three - the album is grandiose and ambitious, and i love that, but he's nowhere near as concise or interesting with his themes or perspectives, or as intelligent or sharp.

And it's not as consistent.
