Eminem's Lead Single Anticipation Thread

What is likely to happen - just as has been the case for every Eminem album - is that we'll get a first-single targeted to the masses, the mainstream. Up till Recovery, the main - common - feature of the first singles was the intention to stir controversy , whilst at the same time reflecting the current image of what Eminem represented. With Recovery, or more specifically 'Not Afraid', the intention part changed, but it was nonetheless targeted at the mainstream audience, and it did represent the "new" current image of Eminem.

The keyword here is "strategy". How does Interscope attract the highest amount of potential consumers? Do not think the release of the 'Despicable' freestyle back in 2010 just came out of the blue. It would seem to me that the main purpose of this track was to reach the more rap-oriented listeners, whom might not have been fully convinced by the - more mainstream - 'Not Afraid' single.

Despicable was released EXACTLY for that reason, to keep the hip hop heads from thinking Em was going soft on Not Afraid.

To the rest of the thread: If you guys are expecting a funny single or a song like Stan you're going to be disappointed. It will be something like Not Afraid and LTWYL dealing with personal issues. He rapped a "personal" verse on My Life and that shit did fairly well so a solo Eminem song with a similar content verse would seem logical and smart. I don't necessarily want this serious single but I understand why he would do it and therefore I will not be surprised or disappointed when the single comes out. Unless if it sucks but everyone loves the fuck outta emo Em so I don't think it will suck.

And if the single is gonna have that Jamie N Commons sample then I can almost 100% guarantee that the single will be a serious one. I actually like how that sample sounds though so I wouldn't mind it. Em could really produce something else with it.

To be honest, Em should pull a LL Cool J for his first single. Get DJ Premier to produce it, sample LL's Mama Said Knock You Out, let Em spaz on it for 3 verses. Dear God that would be fucking awesome.

I think for the first line to his first single, he should steal a line from Monkey See Monkey Do. If he said something like "You fucker's think I went soft cause Recovery, well I'm back now and I'm shooting more than just paintball's, trust me." But this would only work if it is a serious song. If he said something like that, I think it would set the whole tone for the album. A line like that I think would create more buzz than ever around the song thus creating ever more album sales, especially if it was a song like a Criminal/ Kill you type song for his single. Not only would it help create buzz, thus album sales, but it would bring back all the peoiple who had lost faith in his because of song's like "Love the Way you Lie" and from his food references. Plus the type of fanbase he accumulated from that song, or his "new fan's", some would call it, would see who Eminem really is and what made him who he is to his core and loyal fanbase.

ps. Since I am new, I have no idea how many people on here became fans after Recovery and who are life long fan's, so please don't take offence to anything I say like that. I only say it because I know he gained a shit load more fans that know him as the "Love the Way you lie" rapper and not Slim Shady.

It's crazy to think that we have no idea what direction this album is going to be in. We haven't even really heard him write much from the last two and a half years. A lot of the 2012 stuff that came out was written 2010/2011
