On probation, he was mostly sober. He admitted after the fact to sneaking alcohol and stuff, but he was definitely sober more on probation than off it.

I have interviews in my archive about this, but I'm not willing to break my Em boycott to look through them.

This is the general break down I've been able to come up with...

He was mostly sober before getting famous, then he got into drugs because of the tours and the hours it lead to. He got into trouble(court stuff/arrests) and was mostly sober for a while because of probation. Then 8Mile came up and that was insane hours, so he started to use things to help him sleep, and he got really into things heavily for a few years. The 2005 rehab stunt happened. Got back into drugs and that's when Proof died/ODs happened. He was a fucking mess for about 2 years after that, going REALLY hard. Then 2008 happened and he smartened up and has been sober since April 20 2008.
