WTOH - Reception of Critics

I got the idea to look on Wiki of the critic's response to the release of WT:OH, and I expected it to be 3 stars and terrible reviews, but they actually had pretty decent reviews. Why is it that, aside from 3-4 songs, the album seems to be ass? Maybe I'm biased. But I love SH.

I don't understand.

I dunno, it just didn't feel like a cohesive album - they could've done way better. Like...why not make the HOUSE a concept? Basement tracks, attic tracks etc. The former could be dark, gritty classic SH songs and the latter could be the "making it" type of songs. I dunno.

Great fucking post. I agree.

It's a decent album and I enjoyed it a lot. The guys were hyping this up so much I expected to have mind blown and the outcome was far from that, the album felt like it was just a compilation of songs it lacked cohesiveness, none of the songs really jumped out at me. Like Menzo said everyone but Budden were underwhelming, leaving me with a feel of disappointment, not only that but slaughterhouse goes on to bitch about how fans felt about the mixtape being better than the album and much more that just made me upset because I love these guys and I want to see them win but they're going about it the wrong way.

I thought Crooked I really stood out on a fuckload of the tracks though. I know he's kind of thought as the guy who just forces multis, but I thought he did pretty well.

Well because its really nothing more than a collection of average to good tracks. There is not one track on the album that reaches the pinacles of Truth or Truth, Cuckoo or 2.0 boys. The "spitting" tracks (coffin) are meh, the "funny" tracks (walk of shame) got awful production, the "singles" (my life) lacked enough mass appeal and eminem had only one verse on the album so the shady connection is weak.

As a critic, i wud give it a 3/ 5 star based on potential

I never really listened to the first SH album, I listened through once, and I thought it was waaaay better than WTOH. I just don't understand the positive reviews

It's simple. Expectations.

We know Slaughterhouse as a supergroup of backpackers, pure MC's. We expect them to rhyme, to go hard back and forth (pause), and to have great punchlines.

And they didn't do that.. What they did is rap harder than most of the mainstream rappers on some "modern" beats that could have been done for Ross, Tyga or any "cool" rapper out there. For those reviewers, it's pretty cool. For us, it's not enough.

it's also because nobody wanted to review this album.

Other albums have 30-40 reviews, but the metascore of WTOH is based on only 10 reviews and most of these magazines give a good score to every album. (Dj Booth, All Music Guide, Exclaim,...)

I totally agree with Trimssie but I honestly wasn't bothered about 'cuz they had to do it 'cuz of the label. They were putting them on the market using the shit formula (it didn't work commercially anyway). I was ok with it right after I heard the mixtape prior to the official album... I knew what's gonna come next so I enjoyed both tapes anyway.

My opinion? This is a good album. I bump it occasionally.

Could have used more Eminem, but then again, I could say that for anything.

Hopefully on their next album everyone steps it up a little bit and for god sakes forget trying to appeal to the mainstream.

If they let 'em spit on some dark beats then they'll come as they suppose to.
Again... if they drop another banging mixtape prior to their next album I won't be bothered if the album itself was compromised like their first on Shady.

I think Joell came in second, maybe not rhyme-wise always, but he had the emotion a lot (Goodbye, etc) and he seemed pretty decent throughout. Definitely below expectations but still.

I bump this album probably once a week. I think it's a solid 4/5. Slightly behind their debut album though.

Personally, I think Crooked and Joell did the best. Budden and Royce tied (Budden's my least favorite of the group. I can't stand his boring ass voice), IMO.

The album isn't what I hoped but it's still VERY VERY good. There's a collection of songs that have insane replay value (The Other Side, Throw That, Our House, Get Up, Rescue Me, Goodbye...) and the later songs on the regular album like Die and Our Way are so fucking gritty. Holy shit.

Best verse on the album has to be Royce's on The Other Side. It's perfect.

I fully understand the flop, this album was a joke

I agree, i would give it a 5/10 but that's all. It's not an album, it's a collection of average hiphop/pop songs but some people are happy as long as an artist can rhyme a few words together.
I think budden saved this album from being trash

The needledrop gave it a solid 3/10
