Not cool homie. Street Rap has been apart of Hip Hop culture from day one with Kool G Rap, NWA, Ice T, Mobb Deep, Nas, The Lox. Alotta people from the type of enviroment in the inner city have to live a certain way. All 50 is doing is rapping about what he knows, voicing his life. You may not identify or be able to connect but it is small minded to say what you did about it just being bravado, fake etc.
Okay, well then if you disagree... display how I'm wrong.
Other than bravado and gangster imagery... what else did 50 contribute?
(all those other people you mentioned contributed a new era, wave or style of lyricism, or SOMETHING artistically. 50 didn't.)
He contributed 1 of the greatest Hip Hop albums in Get Rich Or Die Tryin, artistically great delivery, great hooks, great flow, good word play. The fact Eminem said he felt like retiring from rap after he first heard 50's music because he was so impressed by his music. That should tell you enough. Good song writting>>>>>anything you said. Name me a 100% street rapper/gangster rapper before 50 cent that would harmonize hooks? name me another rapper that created 1 of the greatest party anthems that can rock a party to this very day like In Da Club? name a rapper that rides and sounds like heaven on Dre beats like 50 does besides Snoop?
Get Rich is a good album, not 'one of the greatest'...
Artistically great delivery?
You mean slurred, lazy flows with embarrassingly corny, predictable and repetitive lyrics?
Where's his great concepts, where's his songs that you can look back on in 50 years and say 'that was 50's time"... In Da fucking club?... are you serious... you could argue I'm just picking on a single, okay, where's his ingenious album tracks lmao? His album tracks are WORSE than his singles.
As for a 'party anthem'... I don't qualify a rapper based on things like that. Things like that are superficial and easy. It's not hard to create a catchy song that is big in parties COUGH TIPSY.
He's created no true masterworks, contributed no great leaps forward stylistically or artistically, presented nothing new or original, created no great concepts... all he's done is rap really bad-average lyrics about 9's and ho's over good beats. The only thing I would concede is good hooks. He was at times very good at hooks, and Power of the Dollar is pretty awesome... but other than that; his fame was made off the back of his cinematic and thuggish image and story, and the endorsement of Eminem and Dr. Dre. He's not a great artist, and has contributed nothing of great worth.
He's not a great rapper even. Are you seriously gonna try and argue his rhymes or even... lyrics themselves are or ever were revolutionary or truly something new lmao? Even in 2003 they were a step backwards. I don't care what Em said. Em signed fucking Ca$his, so, what's that worth lmao.
