Lmao... yeah it is pretty abysmal in some aspects, but I still enjoy listening to it, and like the song...

The thing is, Em has such an ear for melody that even his bad songs are catchy as fuck...

Some of the lines are terrible and the general sentiment delivered in SUCH a kind of, hacky way, BUT, I commend him for trying to break his mould and do something new...

Experimentation (even failed) should always be rewarded, I think, in art... as it's what can potentially lead to masterpieces. Staying the same, or being safe, is way lamer than trying something and failing.

And, it was a really big thing for him to drop the tongue-in-cheek (although, it's still way more present than most peopole, and critics, imply it isn't) - and go for something very self-serious and inspirational. Sure he's done "Lose Yourself", but this was from an even more honest place of pain...

@cityfan, "We Made You" is awesome man.

Yeah, when I compare Eminem songs it's like comparing Beer to Cider. They're both great. Overall I much prefer Not Afraid but I still bump We Made You every now and again. It's great in the car. But you remember the reaction on here? People were not happy.

Look, if Lose yourself wasn't an old song, and it was a current one, people would find a reason to complain also. People here just complain over everything.

While i'm usually one to look at the glass half-full, Lose Yourself is leagues ahead of Not Afraid, regardless of time period/era in which the songs were released.

BUTTT yes people nowadays are much more nitpicky it seems.

Well, reasonably thinking Lose Yourself wont get hate if it released now.
But if he released a verse like Love Me than its definitely getting the hate.
"it's cockamamie, you just ain't zany enough to rock with Shady,
my noodle is cockadoodle, my clocks cuckoo,
I got screws loose, yeahhh, the whole kitten-kaboodle,"
People will complain "oh such a wack ass lazy rhyming" and "food referenze again".

Yeah but people's tastes suck. Also, many people are afraid of saying what they really feel, or don't know what to feel, as they're waiting to see what others say, and if one person says X element is faggy or cringing... some people are like dominos and so, due to peer pressure and not wanting to themselves feel faggy or be perceived as it, they agree and take on a viewpoint...

Like most of the confused, misguided, lost retards on StudioLeaks.

Which is why so many realized LATER that Relapse was awesome.

I said it since day one. Started awesome, remains so yo. #BaseforKingofThisGalaxyShit

It has to do with the age too, no offense to very young people , not everybody is the same and many have more personality. But some others just want to fit.

^ True that.

As you get older and more cemented in who you are and why you think what you think, OR, if you're just a very analytical person (like I happen to be), who analyzes and questions themselves constantly on why why why they like this or think this, or why this is right and this isn't etc. in regards to their OWN viewpoints, in a really obsessive way... you start to truly understand the reasoning behind your taste...

And so nothing outside of that can sway you, or rather - you have a solid, conscious foundation on why you like or don't like something, so you don't just follow nikk@s with your doodle out yo.

^ this, that and so on.

Also, Not Afraid is awesome. I love those sounds that you hear in the background that only appear from time to time.
It reminds me of some kind of old videogame where you level up or something. For example I think it shows up right after "im tearing down your balcony"

I remember saying I liked Space Bound back in the day. I was called corny and I remember those jokes about liking emotional Eminemzzz.....I just don't care. If I like something I will say it, If I don't- I will say it too.

But some people try to act rough, or need to keep their forum reputation (if this makes sense)...so they will never say they like a song like that.. some others will try to fit, others change their mind 100 times....It has a lot to do with age too.

Two dogs caged? Why the fuck would dogs tear a roof off? :confusion: Formulate plots like snails? Wtf?

Tearing a roof off is a metaphor. Just as two caged dogs may attack each other, he's ready to explode and break out of his rut.

"Another day of monotony has gotten me to the point where I'm like a snail"

Nothing about a snail formulating a plot. He's saying he's not making any progress in his life, just as a snail is so slow it barely can move anywhere in a literal sense.

Menzo wrote:"Not Afraid" is powerful as fuck.

If Em meant to say "subconsciously" then he would have said it. The way he says it make perfect sense, you're not smarter than the man who wrote the fucking lyrics.

:facepalm

Subliminal means you're working on someone else's subconscious. He's not trying to subliminally get clean for other people, that doesn't make any sense...and apart from that, why did he just announce it to the entire world that he did it for us, if he's doing it subliminally?

That would be like Everlast going, "I buck a 380 at those that act shady, and by "Shady," I mean you Eminem, you faggot," and Eminem going, "don't be subliminal about it, if you want to diss me, diss me, you fuckin faggot."

Yeah, I remember this well. Not pointing out any names (frankly, because I can't think of them specifically), but a majority of people on here have had so many up and down opinions of songs (some more than others, such as Spacebound) that it has just gotten ridiculous. I'm just waiting for everyone to praise the crap out of Recovery, because it WILL happen, eventually. :coffee:
