There needs to be a wait though, I'm glad there is...
A wait creates excitement and also distance from his most recent material. If he released shit one after the next then the separation wouldn't be as blatant, it would feel continuous and he'd probably sound more similar album to album due to having less time to develop a new style.
He dropped an album in 09 and 010, then a joint EP in 2011... that's three albums on the trot three years in a row, that's a lot of material... I'm glad there was nothing in 2012. He had to wait until 2013 to drop his new solo, you need that year to break it up, create something fresh and create excitement.
Putting shit out constantly is the act of a desperate artist or one that doesn't care very much about the standard of their work (COUGHWAYNE), like they'd rather just put anything they make out without thinking too much about it to keep their name out there than take the time to develop and create something truly special.
Artists like Em realize the power of quality over quantity and he knows he doesn't need to be on every mixtape, TV chat show or releasing shit every week to stay in the public's mind... he's well, well established and even when he wasn't, he knew dropping something insane and then being a bit elusive would create excitement. Where as people like 50 think over-exposure is the way to go, hence why he can't muster up ANY excitement for his shit and why his last album sold as shit as it did. People will get sick of you, no matter how good you are. Em does it right. Timing.
