Slim Fiasco on Emotions

Postby Slim Fiasco » Jun 25th, '13, 01:19

Copying this from a thread over at KTT, the OP in question was asking if it's wrong to be an introvert. I think I made some nice points (none of them original and coming from me) and it's a great read:

What's your usual emotional state though? If you think about it, there are like 3 basic levels, a low one (being sad), a high one (being happy) and a middle one which is like doing a routine. Most of the time we're "stuck" in the middle. Now, when we aren't in the happy state we tend to be more stifled and not feeling free to act like we would like to and that's OK; I mean kind of.

Emotions come in waves and when you're happy you are being your best self, you're being charismatic, and that actually drains your energy so it's hard to be sustained for a long time. Inevitably, there will be times when you'll feel like shit and times when you'll feel fine. Given that you feel the best when you're in that high state, it's only logical to try and reach it as often as possible and stay at it for the longest of time.

Funny enough, people rely on alcohol and drugs to "get there", and what I described above is actually the state when you're drunk i.e. the state when you feel relaxed and free. The problem with that is, alcohol is a crutch and you shouldn't be depended on external things like that. Not to mention that it's unhealthy, requires money and it comes with side effects (feeling sick, throwing up, dizziness, hard to control different functions etc). Now I'm not saying that people shouldn't drink or whatever, just that you should realize that good emotional state should and can come from within.

To make my point, if you had everything handled, like let's say you have your dream job/girl/house, and everything is fine, could you imagine how at ease you would feel? And if you felt like that, you'd be so excited and shit that you would just love to share that energy around and the problem of where your focus is at wouldn't exist.

I'm definitely on the introvert side, and nope, there's nothing wrong with being like that. Fuck what your father or whoever says, there's absolutely nothing wrong with you. However, I do think it's better for everyone when you're being more social because what it implies is that you're at that more happier state which allows you to act freely and spread positivity, so it's a win-win situation because A - you feel happy, and B - the people around you feel happy. It's definitely better than being stuck inside your head.

On that note, you should know that the more you talk the bigger the chances are you'll hit state and let loose. And on top of that, you should take a look at the bigger picture and try to get abundance of positive emotions. You can do this by doing simple things as in eating healthy and working out. That's a great start, and then you should do the things that you love doing. Whatever your dreams are, work at them, set goals, get them done, learn from failure, be patient, know that it may take some time, and when you're out there talking with people and hanging out with friends, just remember to have fun and be present to the moment. That's no time to worry about things and get all analytical.
