'Hold them straightER up' = comedic. Straight is straight, but hold them straightER - because even straight is no good, I want more than straight - hence then going on to another extreme and saying to wave your arms until you dislocate a rotator cuff.

It would bug me if it was a mistake, aka he didn't know that sounded odd or was not a common use of that word in that way... and there was no actual intent / comedic or otherwise of saying it in that way... that would bug me, as it's a mistake, not a choice. As soon as it's not a mistake but in fact a play on the sound of a mistake... everything changes.

As it's like somebody acting like a cock, to be funny rather than actually being one.
