Something Strange I Noticed With MMLP2

Postby LEVITIKUZ » Aug 28th, '13, 17:54

Now we all know Em's new album is going to be called MMLP2, a sequel to MMLP. Personally I ain't a fan of it being a sequel but I'm cool with it. Now back when Xzibit was working on Napalm, he originally was going to call it Restless 2, sequel to his debut album Restless. Xzibit changed the album title after a talk with Dr Dre. Dre said he shouldn't do a sequel, something about Dre not liking the idea of sequels. Doesn't it seem odd that Dre would be against Xzibit calling his album Restless 2 but he's ok with Em having MMLP2?

Just a thought.

No because Em didn't invite me.

Isn't 2001 the Chronic's sequel? So... I would say he doesn't really go against that idea.

Dre owes his career to Em, if Dre told em to rename it Eminem would bitchslap him and say "IM BATMAN BITCH, UR ROBIN LOL NOW FUCK OFF"

Personally, I think Dre is less critical of Eminem because even if Em puts out total garbage, it will still sell. Look at some tracks on Encore for example.

Or maybe that tells you that Dre thinks the album is worthy of being a sequel

"he's okay with it"... lmao... Dre doesn't control Em, he's not his dad ffs lmao.

Eminem is way more artistically creative than Dr. Dre, I'm sure Dre has given him tons of production and vocal performance advice and I'm sure Em listens to his opinion and views in general, but 'he's okay with it' implies shit must get a pass from Dre for Em to be okay with it lmao.

I'm sure Em's done this for good reason.

This is a big exaggeration.

Em has made more conceptual songs which are more artistically expressive than any Dre has made, but in terms of being artistically creative in producing an album, Dre knocks Em out of the water.

Listen to 2001 all the way though and note how seamlessly that album joins up. The phone-call at the end of Big-Ego's joins fluidly with Explosive. The lightspeed instrumental is an awesome resting point in the album. The whole production was may before its time. It may have been gangsta rap, but the way Dre was experimenting with strings, samples and off-the-wall features really threw himself into his own genre. 2001 was a big inspiration for Kanye West's soul-rap aspirations. 2001 was not soul, but it had a soul. It was gangsta at heart, but it drew inspiration from a collection of musical genres.
I am not suggesting that Em has never drawn inspiration like Dre did, but Em does not have an album that runs as flawlessly as Dre's do. (please do not mention Relapse as it really doesn't run a fluid narrative)

I peg Dre for his creativity in the same way I peg Kanye. They both produce albums which exist best listened to as an overall artistic piece; whilst you can listen to an Eminem album on shuffle and still walk away with the same emotions.
"Oh, he'll give us what we need.
It may not be what we want."

I think Dre stopped giving a shit a long time ago. I don't think he deserves as much as he's given credit for musically. I think the Bass Brothers did a lot more in making sure the sound and flow of Em's albums were cohesive.

The only advice Dre probably gives these days is make sure you advertise Beats By Dre as much as you can.

Its been known Dre takes credit for beats he didn't produce. I'm like, you don't produce, and you obviously cant rap to save your life, then what the hell use are you.
TL;DR, Dre's opinions aint shit.

Maybe you're right but if Dre got back to production and he had some great beats on Em's album, it'd be fucking dope.. (Look at Relapse, there is no need any comment)

Dre is an excellent producer, though I suspect a bulk of the work is done by people under him and he just mixes the final version. As a rapper, he almost never wrote his own lyrics, and when he did, it could surely show. Also, he went from being against drugs to pretending to be a pothead to sell more albums, and that's... LAAAAAMMMEEE!!!!

And lastly, I don't consider the Chronic or 2001 to be 10/10 albums.

Xzibit was trying to make a sequel to Restless. Eminem probably didn't plan on making a sequel to MMLP.
