I didn't know who Rick Rubin was before this gargantuan MMLP2 fiasco blew up.
I've seen him in a picture that one of you guys posted in some other thread.
Looks like a cool guy.
Look at his beard.
That beard represents ''Don't fuck with this... I TOLD you not to fuck with this... stupid FUCK!''
MMLP2 will be incredible if this guy is behind it. This album has to stick out like the testosterone infused bush from Rick Rubin's mandible. This CD must contain the wisdom and virility of a man with a head turning beard.
lol... but in all seriousness, although I have never paid MUCH attention to the ''Which producer is behind this'' aspect of Eminem's songs...(and I'm thinking that it's fairly ridiculous that I haven't considering a lot of these producers have stood behind note combinations & melodies that describe emotions to me that can not be verbalized... that have stuck with me for years... having nothing to do with me but somehow perfectly explaining what has happened in my life throughout the periods of time in which a song may have been stuck in my head) I have done a bit of reading about the production behind SSLP, MMLP... well... All of Eminem's albums... and I have to say;
Luis fucking Resto.
(lol what a stupid middle name.)
This isn't just a simple-minded guess based on ''Lose Yourself'' equaling the true magnum opus of Eminem singles...
No, it's based on ''Lose Yourself'' equating to the magnum opus of Eminem singles AND ''Yellow Brick Road'' being a perfect example of a rap song with a beat that does what I explained above...
There's something about ''Yellow Brick Road'' as the quarter notes in the beat slowly ascend up the scale in harmonic minor and then back downwards for two notes...
Something about listening to that gives me goosebumps. Like I said... I know it's simply because I have somehow associated my own memories and feelings around the time in which I was listening to a lot of this with the melody itself. I know that the melody isn't ACTUALLY some mysterious... paranormal musical description of my life at that time... but the way it registers in my brain makes me feel it anyways.
It's amazing.
I know it's only 2 songs... but this ''Luis Resto'' must REALLY know how to tap into people's emotions with note combinations... all while not overpowering Em. He may not even know WHY certain melodies are so effective... but some people contain this unique ability to express emotion through musical notes when they, or no one understands why certain melodies translate to certain feelings.
None of it can be described verbally.
The closest I have ever come to ''deciphering'' music is this... Imagine you're listening to an awesome metal (ok ok... you guys probably aren't into metal... rock? Classical?) riff.
Say the guitarist comes in at one of the most intense parts of the song and plays and awesome riff... then there is a pause or some drumming... and then he plays the same riff again... but this time an octave higher.
I believe that this would translate to feelings similar to ''the background music isnt all... because THIS exists on top of it. Feel how awesome it is.'' and then when the SECOND riff comes... the same thing but one octave higher (and this happens a lot in music) I believe it says to the subconscious of the listeners ''You think THAT was amazing? LISTEN TO THIS.''
It represents Ascendancy. A positive human emotion... or concept that inflicts positive emotions of awe.
Imagine if you could decipher what every note combination actually says to your subconscious?
