I'd like to know how many interviews 50 cent has done, I'm sure it's a RIDICULOUS amount.

My laser disc'll make you take a razor to your wrist,
Make you Satanistic, make you take the pistol to your face
and place the clip and cock it back
and let it go until your brains are rippin out
your skull so bad to sew you back would be a waste of stitches

He's able to do it because it's the elements of mystery and surprise.

Just like Apple only do a few products. They go in their cave and build something for years, then come out and it's really good and really different, so it lasts; but it was also surprising as you knew NOTHING about it, I mean... imagine if they had given people daily tweets and updates of the progress of the iPod from start to finish... there wouldn't be half as much impact as we already know what's coming.

Em has a good marketing mind, but also the mind of a showman, in that sense.

It's because people have no idea how he will sound and whether anybody agrees if Relapse or Recovery or good, great, shit, whatever... they were VERY different and also very dense, it's not like it was 'just some verses'... it was him rapping his fucking heart out in a very new and weird way.

So it's like "nothing... nothing... nothing... "what's he doing?"... nothing... nothing... HOLY SHIT!"

If other rappers put more time in to their work... they could do this to, And in fact as long as there's SOMETHING there, something about the work that is dense and interesting, and as long as the sound isn't predictable... anybody COULD do this. They just don't, as they presume they need to be in your face all the time to stay relevant. But they don't. They're just insecure that you'll forget.

You want more of what you can't have. If someone really good gives you something really exciting and then doesn't give you anything else for years... your excitement and desire to have that thing again will become highly exaggerated. It's like being starving and somebody giving you a bite of steak then running away and hiding it... you'd be like OMG I WANT STEAK AGAIN NOW!!! and your love for steak would be exaggerated, because you build it up and think you want/need it more than you do.

Em gives us a bite of steak, then runs and leaves us with an empty plate until we foam at the mouth. 50 on the other hand goes "here's some... want more? some more? okay more now?" so the effect is "okay... enough. Seriously stop, I'm bored, I want something else" ; and LMAO @ him thinking his music hasn't been working because 'there's so much out there'... then how do you think Em's or Ye's works fif!?... no, it's because you make bad-average music. And it's never-ending.

There's no excitement to unwrapping a bad gift, which you already know what it is too.

But you have just confused marketing with style.
When Kanye released MBDTF his fans were kept up to date with his his thoughts and plans for the album, but the actual style was a complete shock until his Good Friday releases. That was a different style of marketing, but it was extremely successful.

Relapse and Recovery were unexpected stylistic moves by Eminem, but besides from this divergence with the latter album, recovery was very much in the spotlight (albeit under the guise of Relapse 2). Relapse had already secured much of the marketing for this album. The marketing was hardly the work of genius

In fact the marketing for MMLP2 is the first time Em's secretive marketing scheme has really worked to build a buzz. His earlier albums were never as secretive, and Em himself was constantly in the spotlight. You're failing to remember how his marketing and buzz was achieved in his early career. It is only since his comeback that he has been a lot more withdrawn. Until recently, interscope have been piss poor at marketing, and I still feel that much of his current buzz owes to his new style and intriguing choice of album title which really just arouses feelings of nostalgia.

Please do not confuse deliberate secrecy with a genuine wish to escape the spotlight.
"Oh, he'll give us what we need.
It may not be what we want."
