Basically, it's like when on Star Trek they have to switch from main power to auxiliary power. The life support, engines, etc all stay operational. Just the holodeck and shit gets shut down. It's not essential.

Fortunately I do have insurance through my employer. and it isn't some blissful benefits program (it carries a hefty deductible).i do plan on adjusting the monthly amt to reduce the deductible @ the next open enrollment.
Anyway,
from what I've seen on the news about ACA (ObamaCare), is it isnt free. Like many if not all insurance plans there is a monthly rate and there is a deductible.

The "free healthcare" bit is definitely not the case. It's only free if your state has expanded their medicaid program and you are close enough to poverty to qualify. Otherwise, you're forced to purchase healthcare insurance and possibly get it subsidised by federal tax rebates. Still, your monthly payments and deductables make for quite the upfront out of pocket expense. Our healthcare system is still laughable compared to those of other 1st world nations.

@ Eedee, you would have had trouble getting a passport, but since you've already got one, you're pretty much in the clear.

The bad thing is that the worst of this is probably not over. The debt ceiling debate is nearing and we'll be running the risk of defaulting on our loans and throwing our economy and the global market as a whole into chaos over this same fucking argument. Won't that be fun?

Well it would definitely be a result of pressure from hard line conservative Republicans, not so much Obama. His policies are flawed, but their methods run the risk of destabilizing the domestic and world economy. They were elected in reaction to Obama, but the way they try to conduct things does more harm than good to their cause.

In the meantime, there are 800,000 government employees out of work and children all over the country that can't go to head start, along with all the other issues that arise when the government has a partial shutdown.
